Cafe Rouge
Cafe Rouge is situated in the new eatery section of the Metro centre, and it serves lovely food, with a French influence, and generally helpful staff, although the service can be quite slow at busy times. The Citron Presse is always popular, as are the various sandwiches on offer, however during busy periods the most popular meals run out quite early. It is a perfect place for a nice lunch in between some shopping, or a romantic meal before a visit to the cinema, although families with younger children may prefer one of the many fast food restaurants which are situated close by.

Now known as Aspire
Baroque has closed down, and is now called Aspire, a chic cocktail bar in the centre of Sunderland, serving a new market as the first cocktail bar in the area. Cocktails are made as you wait, which creates rather a long waiting time, especially as the staff are not all used to this method of drink-serving. However, the menu is extensive, catering to all palates, with pitchers of cocktails being available as well as single glasses. Some two-for-one offers are available. Some of the drinks are fairly expensive for the area, although the swanky interior makes it more than worthwhile.

Rosedene
The Rosedene on Alexandra Road is a run-of-the-mill pub, situated slightly out of the main drag in Sunderland, serving the Ashbrooke and Tunstall areas of the town. The usual crowd is fairly mature, probably due to the out of town location, although drinks are reasonably priced, and the atmosphere is friendly to both locals and strangers. The drink menu is fairly basic. The pub is always packed on November 5th, when Ashbrooke Fireworks take place close by. An ATM cash machine is available just inside the main doors, by the toilets. Surrounding area is very pleasant, creating a lovely atmosphere.

Tavistock
The Tavistock Italia is a very popular friendly restaurant located on the Sea Front at Roker in Sunderland. The restaurant is separated into a bar area and two separate eating areas, one with a more al fresco feel. The food is obviously Italian, with very high quality pizzas and pastas available, along with a great drinks menu. The service is very friendly, with a relaxed atmosphere enjoyed by many local residents. Ample car parking is available and the bus service to the restaurant is very reliable. The Tavistock is a restaurant with a very high local reputation, which is very easily deserved.

Kublai Khan
The Kublai Khan Restaurant situated in central Newcastle is a Mongolian Restaurant, which provides a new experience in eating out. Customers choose their own mixture of meat, vegetables and rice, as well as sauce, which is then cooked by a highly trained chef. This is a very different experience, and may not be for those who prefer a more relaxed meal, but for families with children it can be a delicious way of keeping the younger ones entertained throughout the meal (so long as their mixtures aren’t too over the top!)
The food is delicious and the experience is well worth paying for.

Nando's
Nando’s is a chain of Portuguese Chicken restaurants, situated around the country. Seating is available at both tables and in booths. The food is always tasty, with all chicken, from burgers to wings, being available in a number of sauces ranging from mild lemon and herb to extra spicy, in order to cater to all tastes. Salads and some other meals are available for those who aren’t keen on chicken. A special menu is available for children (Nandinos), and bottomless soft drinks help to make a meal at Nando’s very affordable. The desert and coffee menu is also very tasty and creates a great ending to a very enjoyable meal.
