Boot Inn
The boot Inn at Stanford dingly is a few miles out side Reading. It’s a pleasant drive in the country side. The outside of the building is a very pretty old fashioned pub. The inside has bare floors and low beams. There is a lovely open fire which is very welcoming in the winter. The restaurant area is small but they have made good use of the space. The food is excellent and well priced. The bar staff and restaurant staff are friendly and welcoming. This is one for anyone who hates modern bars it’s a real step back in time.

Bridge cafe
The Bridge cafe has been in Reading for years, it sits on the outskirts of town so it feels like you are almost in the countryside by the time you get to it. It is an old fashioned looking café that seems to have not changed for a long time. It always seems to be busy which is surprising as it faces a very nice modern pub and restaurant. I think the reason this cafe keeps going is the fact it serves very large potions of good basic food at a good price. It’s the sort of place ‘real men’ would go for food.

Island bar
The Island bar is set on Pipers Island this bar has just been rebuilt, it is now a very modern all glass building. The bar is set in a very pretty location next to Caversham Bridge; it is named the Island bar because it floats in the middle of the river Thames. The service is very good and so is the food but I found it rather expensive although you do get a beautiful view of the water and the passing boats so I suppose the cost is worth it for the scenery. This is worth a visit just for the novelty value if nothing else.

Rileys
Riley’s snooker hall on Oxford road in Reading was once an old cinema, from the outside the snooker hall does not look very inviting, but if you ignore the exterior and go inside the building you will find yourself pleasantly surprised. It is well decorated and very clean. For a snooker hall the interior is very well lit but not too bright. The snooker tables are in good condition and the rates are reasonable especially out side peak hours. There are plenty of large screen TVs around the room showing sport or music videos, and the staff are friendly and helpful.

Bina
The Bina in Caversham, is an Indian restaurant. The food is first class and the service is excellent. The restaurant itself is very clean inside and out and it’s well presented. The toilets are always spot less and the staff are always well dressed and very friendly, They always make you feel welcome. They also do a very quick and efficient take away service. Not one of the cheapest places to eat but in my opinion worth every penny. This one is worth the visit. There are plenty of places to park in Caversham that are with in walking distance.

Vue
Vue is a cinema inside the Oracle shopping centre. Walking to the cinema is nice as you get to see the Kennett cannel that runs through the centre of Reading. This is a multi screen complex and I was surprised at how small it was inside. The cinema is modern and well designed but I felt that it lacked something. It left me feeling rather hemmed in and cramped. The seats were nice with arm rests that lifted up so you could get closer to the person next to you. But over all not a cinema I will be rushing back to.

Jongleurs
Jongleur is a comedy club, restaurant and night club. The evening includes a very good meal and a comedy act. The food is very good and the portion sizes are reasonable. I have been many times and have always found the entertainment to be good. I have never left feeling disappointed. Later in the evening the club turns in to a disco. The only down side of this is as the evening progresses people who have not eaten or seen the show are allowed to enter just to dance which in my opinion leaves the club feeling rather too full.

Greggs
Greggs is a small bakery and cake shop that can be found in the town centre. It provides sensibly priced food that tastes delicious. Their hot pasties are beautiful especially the cheese ones and their cakes are all ways fresh. They often have special offers on at lunch time. They also sell a wide range of pre packed sandwiches and an assortment of drinks. The staff are always friendly and polite no matter how busy they are. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a quick and tasty lunch. This one is worth a visit for anyone looking for a change from burgers and chips.

Queens Road Car Park
I decided this car park would be the best place to park for visiting the cinema in the oracle. How wrong I was, if you know Reading very well you would probably be all right but being new to the area I found it very difficult to get to. Reading has a one Way system that goes through the town known locally as the IDR. To get to this car park you find your self caught up in quite heavy traffic. The entrance to the car park is very easy to miss if you find yourself in the wrong lane. All though if you do manage to get in to the car park it is conveniently located and in walking distance of the town centre.
