Rival for kfc
The favorite fried chicken and ribs takeaway shop is on one of the busy side streets in clactons town centre.
The food on offer here is tasty and reasonable, it compares well to the bigger named kfc brand.
The drinks selection includes a lemon and lime fizzy drink that you do not get offered any where else in town.
They do their own style of chicken wraps which are good, you can have a spicy version if you like hotter food. The fillet burgers are chunky and full of fillings. The corn on the cob is always a good choice too. It always looks clean here.
The favorite fried chicken shop is tried and trusted, have used it many times.

The plough at great clacton, was burnt down a couple of years ago but has been tastefully restored to its former glory and is once again very busy with regular drinkers. It is a cute little pub, with not too much room to move around, but lots of wooden beams and traditional decor can be seen. On busy nights it can be really packed, well it is compact here and the regulars are very loyal to it. There is a large screen and karioke is a regular event here. The owners have been friendly and the prices a very much in line with most other local pubs. Nice place for a drink with good company. The smokers can go outside for a puff and a chat if they need to do so.

The carlton pub is right in the centre of town near the traffic light crossing, on the one way system, so you need to think about parking in advance.
It has always been busy in the day time as it is right in town and easy to pop in for a quick drink. The decor is old fashioned and could do with re doing, but it is a good pub and has a lot of regular drinkers.
Next to the pub and owned by them is a small restaurant that gets very busy during the day and offers a fair quality and selection of food at reasonable prices. The mash was nice.
They have cheaper prices for childrens meals and do get busy so plan for this if going here for lunch.

The robin hood pub is on a busy road out of town going towards the new tescos.
We used to really like the robin hood but it has gone down a bit over the years.
It is still very busy and on a sunday the place is packed out but we had a meal a while ago and our sons burger looked like some one had taken a bite out of it
Then to make things worse they over charged us at the bar and would not refund the difference. It was a shame as the warm goats cheese salad used to be a real winner.
It may have improved but we are a bit reluctant to try it again.
Also a car went through the wall here a while ago and pinned a small child to the wall, lucky it was not much worse, too close to the road really.

The queens head on st johns road at the traffic lights junction towards great clacton is a very busy and popular place to drink. It has lots of regular customers and has a homely old fashioned english pub style. The regular customers here are friendly and many drink here 3 or 4 nights a week, it has been run by the same person for many years and is about to be taken over by new managers, lets hope they have as much success as the old management have. The food is good and the restaurant does get busy at the weekends. used to do a carvery meal at weekends too, which was good.

The apple tree is a nice pub in the centre of little clacton on the old main road and just 10 minutes from the town of clacton on sea.
It was painted a really bright yellow which almost glowed in the sun shine as you walked up to it. It can be found on the former main road in to clacton, which now has a bypass and has some car parking.
The pub some times has live music and can get busy on these days.
The selection of drinks on offer is good and the staff have been nice. Have not been for a while but have found it to be good on previous visits. Try it for your self and see if you like it.

Blacksmiths arms
The black smiths arms is on a busy main road in the heart of little clacton, only 10 minutes from the centre of clacton itself. It has many regulars and gets quite busy.
We had booked a medium sized family function here in the small separate function room which is in its own building at the back of the pub. This was ideal for us as it was not accesible for the pub drinkers and more private for us. The function has a small buffet which had been laid on by the pub. The tea and coffee was hot and close to hand. I must say the food was very good in terms of both quality and cost and we were very pleased with our choice of venue.A really good selection at the buffet table. Would use it again if we need to and would recommend it to you too.

The black bull public house is on st osyth road, clacto on sea.
The black bull used to be our local and we liked nipping down the road for a quick drink or to play a game of darts with friends and listen to some music.
The bar staff were friendly and the regulars were nice too. It has two bars the lounge bar where you take the wife, and the main one which houses the pool table, which is were most people, lads, like to drink.
There are also benches out side but they do front on to a really busy main road, so are not the ideal place to sit for a drink, unless you like car noise and fumes. There is no beer garden or kids play area but there is a car park around the back of the pub.

The crown public house is situated in the pretty village of thorpe le soken and is on the busy main road.
We went out for an evening drink at the crown and thought it had gone a bit down hill, it used to do nice bar meals like ham and eggs with chips (lovely carved off the bone ham) etc, but did not feel we wanted to stay long on this visit, not really sure why, the beer garden is not very good either the kids play area looked a bit sad really and the garden fronts straight on to the car park. The new smoking area is quite near by too and this would not be good for children at all.
Not a first choice any more, so will be looking further a field for a new place to eat now.

The roaring donkey at holland on sea sounds like it will be great as it has had a recent re fit and should by rights be looking great, but this place is so abused by the customers and not cleaned well, that it is looking really very shabby already.
We decided to go pay it a visit one sunday recently and check out the re fit. Oh my, we were very sadly disapointed. The food is still frozen re heated ready food, the cleanliness is bad to say the least and the customers are quite rowdy. If you want to have a terrible meal and waste your money in a grubby restaurant then this will be for you, other wise give it a miss.
The waiting time for food, even if only a dessert, is very long also, and not worth the wait.
