Situated opposite Hallam University, this is a popular student haunt, which also attracts a mixed crowd of professionals. As the Globe is very close to the Novotel and many other city centre hotels, it is nicely situated for anyone who’s visiting and looking for a drink or a game of pool in a lively but not over-crowded atmosphere. The pub is large and attractive wooden furniture (which is widely spaced) makes the seating area feel very comfortable.

A TV and jukebox are provided, as are bar games including Connect Four and Jenga. A wide range of beers, bottles and spirits are offered, with regular drinks promotions. Reasonably priced food and snacks are also served until late in the evening.

Cheap n Cheerful
A city centre hotel close to shops, theatres, bars and restaurants, The Cutlers Hotel has 50 bedrooms (all en suite). Rooms are decorated in bright (though restful) colours and furnishings are tasteful.

Two lounges are available for the use of guests and the large in-house Bistro Bar serves a wide selection of food, although it is also possible to walk to popular local restaurants within minutes.

Free car parking is provided and reception staff are very helpful. Special dinner, bed and breakfast deals are available for a £5 supplement, any night of the week.

If you like reasonable prices and a comfy sleep, then you should be fine.

Gimme the student feel
Varsity calls itself "the student pub", but like many West Street venues it is frequented by all and sundry. Housed in spacious, custom-built premises on two floors, the extensive use of glass and metal gives the place an airy, modern feel.

Banks's bitter and Kronenbourg are served on draught and there's also an extensive all-day menu (snacks are available from around £3 and main courses such as beef and ale pie are about £5).

The pub can get very busy in the evenings, but during quiet daytime periods the comfy sofas make it a relaxing place to linger over lunch or a drink.

I can heartily recommend the Chicken Tikka Malayan from this Indian Restaurant. It’s a pineapple curry dish but OMG it’s fan dabby dosey. You can have it at any strength you like, so I opted for madras strength, this restaurant did not disappoint.

OK the inside is like your average Indian takeaway, nothing that stands out over and above the usual places and it can be a little cramped in their booths as they were only built for hobbits it seems.

However all that aside you will enjoy a fabulous meal at Ambar and you won’t be disappointed with the food or price.

Nice Food, Slow Delivery
While staying at a buddies house who lives near this restaurant we ordered a take way while enjoying an evening with movies and girls.
The food I have to say is delightful, excellent value and very authentic (and I know what good Indian should taste like).

The menu is extensive but they’re happy to cook you a meal of your choice if you don’t see what you would normally have at your own local restaurant/take away.
The only downside to this place is that it took them over an hour to deliver a takeaway when we’re less than one mile away.

If were weren’t need deep in scantily clad young ladies we would have walked to collect our takeaway. I suppose you have to pick your battles though right? =D

Real Ale Town Bar
The Dev Cat is busy with student & civil servants alike. The food is surprisingly good and the real ale options are a plenty. Unlike some other real ale pubs this one also has a good selection of lagers so it keeps everyone happy.

The best bit though are the prices, they’re actually very reasonable for a nice, friendly, city centre venue. You’re sure to find a wide variety of different folk in this place and I’m sure you’ll return again and again.

The only downside is the service, the bar staff don’t seem to have the grasp of which customers came to the bar first and most of the male bar staff have a knack of serving the girl students first much to my annoyance. Other than that, I recommend The Devonshire Cat wholeheartedly.

Footy Season Pub
They have sky sports, plenty of beer, fast service with a smile and a big screen. What more can you ask for when you’re trying to watch Premiership Football, Rugby or Curling (WFT? Curling?).

The décor is traditional, by that I mean it’s a pub, no frills no holds barred, 100% PUB! Just the way we like it. When a football game is on you’re can bet your bottom dollar that this place is HEAVING. Get a seat early or stand for the entire match… your call.

I’d recommend this place to builders, footy fans and working class folk. You can be middle class too if you like but we might stare at you until you cry if you are :-p

Nothing exciting
The only good thing for me about this place is that it's over 21's (or is it 25's?) only in here.

That is where the good times end. It’s boring, small, pretentious, poor quality food, expensive, dull and if they play music it is often way too loud.
Apologies there is something else good about it, the outside section in the day time is nice if you want to sit out. However personally I’d rather go to the Walkabout if that’s all I wanted (and that is seriously saying something).

When I was 18 – 20 I used to look upon this place with awe thinking that I would one day be allowed to join the elite. Now I think I’d rather stick pins in my gonads and watch Songs of Praise for 24 hours straight.

A place fit for a Prince
It’s a pub like most others but it has a very nice décor, very nice food, nice selection of beers and some fit bar girls! If this place had topless waitresses I’d move in tomorrow. OK on a serious note it is a family friendly pub (dang) and it shows. It’s full every weekend of people enjoying a local night out with local friends.

You don’t need to be a local to drink here as it generally is 50% students anyway as the pub sits in a student/posh neighbourhood anyway.

Good points: The beer is nice, the atmosphere nice and the bar girls very very nice.
Bad points: It closes too early. Sort yourself out Prince of Wales.

I WANNA ROCK!
If you're a rock fan then you're love this place. If you’re a student then you’ll love this place. If you don’t care about sticky floors, sweaty head-bangers and cheap beer/mixers and seriously LOUD music then this is your venue.

This place makes no bones about how dirty it is inside but it seriously has atmosphere that soon displaces all that. Also for those looking for a no trouble venue Corp’ as it is locally known is notoriously hard to get into actual fights. Rockers despite their outward look to society aren’t trouble causers. Yeah they jump around in the mosh pit banding into each other but they don’t start fighting if you bump into them.

This place is given a bad rep for no good reason. I wouldn’t hesitate in taking out of towners to the corp for a genuinely good time.
