Squeaky bench and dry fish cakes
There is a bench that squeaks like it is really a quacentury years old (but we suspect the squeaking could be due to our friend's lovingly polished butt). The pub does claim to have been around since the 1600s though the bench seems to be the only remnant of this history. The rest of the pub is mostly renovated and newish.

I like the way it is divided into different 'rooms' like a house. And it is bigger than most traditional pubs in Oxford. These rooms are usually quite filled up, the pub does get quite popular even on week nights.

Food was so-so though. I had Fish Cake, and it was too flaky and dry for my taste. The whole portion (about £4++) was really just a tiny fish cake with tiny bits of pity greens, quite miserable. It was under the 'small plates' category in the menu, fair enough. But still quite pricey for the value.

Wonderful acoustics, cosy, smallish, more like a room than a hall, so you don't feel so much like part of the audience, separated from the performers. Love it!

Don't let them make you belly dance! If you do, make sure you sneak to the toilets to warm up first (my legs cramped while forced to dance under the pole and I fell! It's harder than it looks!). There will be LOTS of peer pressure to belly dance. Or another good strategy would be to get yourself drunk silly first, so you won't remember a thing of your public humiliation.

Food was great, but tapas are always great, even M&S ones. Ambience is kinda cheesy, and you'll have to put up with the music the whole night... It's good for laughs and silly fun, for occasions like leaving-do, birthdays, group gatherings etc.

Cute little 'home-made' restaurant. The interior looks like they painted it and decorated it themselves all by hand. So the effect is quite cosy and homey.

The place is quite small, so seats are close together, and not the most comfortable in the world. Also the place gets really warm and stuffy in summer. Otherwise, it is a lovely venue, and the staff seem friendly and nice.

Food is great, and menu is mouthwatering, and makes you keep changing your mind about whether to order savoury or sweet crepe (no, you won't be able to finish two!).

However maybe because of the indulgent nature of crepes (too rich), it always leaves me feeling kinda glutted-out and jelak afterwards, and then I would swear never to return for the next few months to come. Which is kinda a good thing, because otherwise I will get quite fat quite soon.

I went there for the first time last week, didn't know what to order as the menu can be quite overwhelming for people not used to Thai food. So I just asked the waiter to recommend something. He recommended the seafood thingy and ermm chicken curry thingy.. sorry can't remember the names! Anyway it was lovely and I suspect that ANYTHING on the menu would be equally lovely.

Dinner portion wasn't huge, so we could still end it with a satisfying sticky rice dessert. Yummm.

Service was great, the waiter (and soothing effects of the coconut in the food) left us feeling happy and warm. They were really busy and short-handed, and so could get neglectful however, but their warm smiles made up for that.

The important bottom line is this... Always check your bill! When ours came it was mixed up with some other table's, and as the names of the dishes were all in Thai, it was difficult to see if it was the right bill except in our case it was twice as much as it should have been, and hence it was glaringly obvious to us. Lucky the bastards who got away with paying half price for their fabulous dinner!
