good value, quick and friendly
This little cafe, with bench seating, is a South Wimbledon favourite of ours. Its menu is a mixture of Chinese and Japanese rice and noodle dishes served in generous portions by young and pleasant staff. Prices are very reasonable (eg 5 or 6 for a groaning plateful of chicken and vegetables with black bean sauce) and it's a great place for hungry youngsters on a limited budget. Only problem is that service is so speedy and the turnover so fast that your visit is more likely to last forty minutes than a whole evening!

a little French oasis
Le P'tit Normand is a small French restaurant situated rather unpromisingly in a Southfields parade of shops. It seems to have a loyal clientele of local people, and the atmosphere is quietly relaxed. The menu is traditional and features things like fish soup, mussels, saddle of lamb, duck with prunes, sea bass, creme caramel, tarte tatin and a fine cheeseboard. We've been several times and have largely been pleased with our choices, though occasionally there's a 'miss' rather than a hit - for example my 'tagine of lamb' contained some unexpected kidneys which were very undercooked for British tastes. Service can be warm and attentive, but can also be surprisingly slow, with long patches where you wonder if they have forgotten you. On the whole, we don't mind this as it is a pleasing contrast to those restaurants where they hurry you out so that they can settle another bunch of diners at your table. Average price about 30 a head for three courses with house wine.

a relaxing change of atmosphere
We find this a welcome change from other Wimbledon restaurants and a pleasant place for some tasty Lebanese food. It's small and unpretentious with friendly staff who remember you. Our favourite food there is a selection of starters and small dishes which we prefer to the main (slightly plain) meat dishes. They often play Lebanese music on CD which helps to blot out the rather bleak urban view from the window.
