Disappointing.
Sad to report that this place has gone downhill since it first opened. Staff are clueless. Food is average, overpriced, and meager. Last Saturday, salads looked like they'd been sitting out for while. Not tempting at all. The hummus wrap was fine. But at 5.50, it should have been way more special. My friend's pie said it came with salad; he got maybe 5 leaves. Oh yeah, and it was only 12:30 and they were out of most host savories. Apparently the coffee is OK and the space itself is nice and open. It's a shame the food is such a waste of money.

Good for beer, hit or miss on food
I go to this place regularly for a Friday night pint. I love the modern-meets-traditional pub atmosphere... spacious, wood tables, leather couches, sun in the afternoon. The staff are very friendly. Their beer fridge isn't cold enough so stick to pints over bottles. I only wish the food were better. On two occasions the food was overpriced, boring and potentially even poisonous (I'm not sure if it was the veggie burger or the beer, but something didn't sit right after that meal). Some friends claim to have had a decent burger there once, and I believe their chips are okay.

Mem & Laz rules. The food is delicious - I highly recommend anything with grilled halloumi and the stuffed pepper dolmas. The good house red wine is made great by its unbeatable price. The atmosphere is cozy - be prepared to squeeze between tables to get to your seat. But somehow the candlelight and the theatre posters make the venue feel more snug rather than overcrowded.

Get there before 6pm for the 2- or 3-course meal deal (£6.95 or £8.95 respectively). It's an amazing deal for the quality.

This place bakes the best bread of all time. Ever. Their whole meal loaf is amazing; their rye, rich and fragrant. Desserts are also spectacular.

Hidden pizza gem near Spitalfields
I don't know if I'd call this place "budget" (at 9+ for a pizza) but you definitely get what you pay for, and more. Their pizza is among the best I've had in London, with its crispy, paper thin crust and impeccibly fresh and organic ingredients. On our visit, my companion and I shared a yummy salad, which came with pine nuts, avocado, and mixed sprouts. The dessert brownie was fudgy and rich, delicious if that's how you like your brownies. The only let down was the latte; it was too hot and too milky. But what can you do? Order an organic Freedom beer instead.
