The Tyne is situated among a crop of great pubs (the cluny, cumberland arms, free trade) down by the Ouseburn. The Tyne is sitting just under a bridge almost at the juncture the Ouseburn meets the River Tyne itself.

It's pretty big inside, but has an even bigger beer garden and extra outside seating for when sunny afternoon crowds need to spill outside.

It serves some great price beer, staff are always friendly, foods not bad - the choice of local and guest ales makes it one of the best value places in Newcastle.

It has a very diverse and frequent programme of live events, and some quality all-dayers especially in the summer months.

Toilets are a little on the tiny side, but all in all this is one not to miss if your out down the booze-burn.

All in all this place is a pretty nice pub, not the best known, but those who do frequent it regard it as one of Newcastle upon Tynes best drinking establishments.

Its very close to both St James Park and the Newcastle Uni campus, and is only a few minutes walk from any of the town centre metro stations.

It's got a couple of cool bars which always attract a really diverse but friendly crowd, and your always sure of a good night any night down at the Trent.

There is a pool table upstairs and the downstairs room still has a classic free jukebox (song choices literally catering for everybody) and a few old arcade machines.

Drink choices are pretty much top class, the service is friendly, and you won't have to pay over the odds here for your favourite cocktail or pint of local best.

Really well run pub - highly recommended!

Sticky floors
Mood is one of Newcastle's more recent additions, opening with the other establishemnts in the Gate several years back. I imagine it was probably thought it might rival nearby Tiger Tiger as a late night bar/club, but unforunately your much more likely to get a more Bigg Market esque crowd in here -

That being said it's never too expensive, and as long as you don't mind cheesy dance mixed with, well, cheesy dance, then you'll never run out of cheesy dance to dance to. The drink choices aren't great but aren't too expensive, and service is usually pretty friendly and fast.

Just watch out for those sticky floors though, it's an effort to even lift one foot to shake a move!

Maybe a bit like marmite this one - not for everybody!

The Bodega is a pretty nice pub situated on the Westgate Road, just nextdoor to the Tyne Theatre (the old opera house). It's a bit more lowkey than neighbouring Tilleys and serves a really good range of rotating local and national ales. You can usually get a good pint of Mordue in here and the staff are pretty friendly.

Don't expect any hipsters in here though, it's a much more laidback everyman crowd, just going about their drinking business. It's a decent size inside and never seems to be rampacked so it's always pretty comfortable to enjoy a pint and maybe a shot on the quiz machine.

It loses one star for it's lack of table foosball, it used to have a cracking table and I'm not sure why they got rid of it - otherwise it is a good pub!

So You Want a Revolution?
Part of a national chain of vodka bars, this place will always attract a fair crowd, usually quite mixed but always a good place to drink and chat. It's located on a street of trendy bars inbetween the station and the infamous Bigg Market, although this is probably the most easygoing due to it's background dj's and great priced drinks.

Most notable on the drinks front is the 2 for 1 some great tasting cocktails and nothing beats a tray of vodka shooters either!

A little quieter early in the day but I hear it does some pretty nice food as well, and in a well preserved building mixed with marble and old paintings it's a nice decor to have a friendly drink in.

Recommended!

The Free Trade really is another great ouseburn establishment, the only difference being the killer climb to it's perch on the hill towards byker.

Fairly small but cosy inside with a great selection of local and international beers, nice range of crisps (i think thats a plus!), really laid back crowd, and unbelievable views back down the river tyne and beyond from it's nice little beer garden.

It also has a pretty good jukebox which I seem to remember being free? I hope it still is as it only adds to the charm of this underrated establishment.

So all in all, if your planning an afternoon down the booze-burn, this place is an essential stop!

Class Spoonsies!
This wetherspoons establishment seems to have been sitting just opposite the central station for as long as the old union rooms building itself. Welcoming weary travellers across for a cheap and varied drink selection, including a great rotation of english ales (especially if you get down during one of it's many beer festivals), well priced pub grub and an always easy going atmos, you really can't go wrong with a pint in here - whether your days ending or your nights just beginning.

It's a big place as well, with two bars downstairs and one up, although upstairs doesn't have as much space for general drinking as it does tables for food. Downstairs there's a big screen for all the big games and even a smaller library room for the more chillaxed crowd, among spoonsies labrynthian beery corridors!

All in all a good all round pub.

Good pub with friendly staff that always seems to fill up no matter what night you visit. Located just opposite the train station it's got two levels to it.

The main bar upstairs is always open, and although it's a weird shape, always manages to serve great beers in a cool atmosphere.

The second bar downstairs is usually open later and weekends and is where all the live gigs are played. It's a really cosy and intimate venue and gets some small but exciting acts from both local and further afield. Sometimes the sound isn't so good down in the basement but it's dimly lit charm just about makes up for it.

Try it on a Saturday night!

Really nice pub just halfway up pink lane from opposite the central station.

Attracts the quintessential alternative crowd in Newcastle and will always be rammed on a weekend, despite slight refurbishments to give it a little more room.

Awesome selection of drinks, and even if a little on the pricey side, always worth waiting those extra ten minutes to be served with a bottle of Anchor Steam (San Fran's finest) or Sierra Nevada (cali IPA).

Music wise the weekend dj's are always spot on, mixing in likeable indie from every era, with bits of soul, dance and funk, warming the drinkers up for clubs ahead, or maybe just popping into the beardy opulence of the jazz cafe!

Jukebox still there, haven't used it for a while, but if it still works it's got a great selection.

All in all one of Newcastles finest establishments!

I think this has changed to Floritas now, although a very similar crowd, it's tried to alter it's decorative style to a pseudo cool americana feel, with weird lights hanging portraits (look out for the one of Ken Barlow, seriously!), and a simple panini menu to match.

A bar that mainly attracts the 'beautiful people', but don't let that put you off if you fancy trying one of it's overpriced cocktails or sampling some really surprising beer selections. it seems to have imported Peru and Mexico's finest in Cusquena and Modelo respectively.

Music it's a mixed bag but dj's are usually hip enough that people seem to get into the slightly funky but danceable tunes. Probably worth a look but definitely not a regular haunt!
