Carpe Diem is a pub for students / emo kids. It has cheap beer, live music and is generally a good laugh. Don't go if you want a nice smart bar; do go if you want a proper pub with cheap prices and cheap pub grub. Packed on a Friday and Saturday night with what looks like the local sixth form college population. It has cobbles inside and the toilets are a bit divey but this doesnt seem to bother the clientele. They sometimes have a problem with under-age drinkers so if you're under 25 take some ID as they are very strict with it. Good fun in a relaxed friendly pub.

Absolutely stunning hotel. We had a standard room and it was sumptuous and stunning. We had a gorgeous view from the full-length windows of Manchester at night. The breakfast was also delicious and was brought to the room for you (for an additional cost, well worth it). I think next time I would go for the business 'class' booking for a later checkout just so I could look around the room with wonder. The bathroom was also lovely with a wet-room and then a dry area with a sink and mirrors to get ready in. The reception area and entrance are very grand and swanky and it made what was a short trip away a truly memorable experience.

I used to get dragged in here week in, week out with my ex and despite knowing nothing much about guitars I can't say I ever minded it as much as some of the other guitar shops around. The staff are lovely, really friendly and they really know their stuff. You can be sure they wouldn't rip you off if you walked in there not knowing a thing. They have older guitars up the stairs with loads of memorobilia and signed pictures / photos and it's nice and relaxed. There is no sales pressure and they are happy to just have a chat. I recently bought a guitar from here for my brother and feel like I left well-informed and with a good deal. Friendly people, brilliant guitar shop.

I am adding my review because I am shocked at how positive the reviews for this place are! I went along a few months back and had a terrible night. There were two fully blown fights where the bouncers had to step in and physically escort some lads out. It is packed full of screaming women on hen parties and men in ben sherman shirts doused in lynx. The music and drag queens were really good but all of this was marred by the clientele. It is located in what is increasingly becoming a rough area of Leeds - with Yates' over the road it would seem people spill out of here and go to the -within staggering distance birdcage. Definitely not a good area of Leeds for this otherwise ok nightclub.

Las Iguanas is a relatively new bar down the side of the corn exchange. The best reason to go is for their amazing Caipirinha cocktails! They are made with cachaca (sp?) rum, limes and sugar and they are fantastic. They are on 2 4 1 at 'off-peak' times - I think most days other than fri / sat. The bar-staff are lovely and will have a chat with you about any of the drinks. I got one of them to tell me the recipe for the drink with the ever elusive pronunciation (which the bar staff also helped with) Caipirinha (cap-reen-i-yah) - at least I think that's it. Their food is also delicious and reasonably priced, I would recommend their chicken fajitas. A genuinely lovely place to go.

I have only been to the restaurant part of Trio, we bypassed the (very quiet - it was outside of term-time) bar and continued upstairs. The restaurant itself was full of posh students / young professionals. Our waiting staff were friendly, polite and efficient. Portions are small and not cheap but they taste amazing. My chicken satay came on a piece of slate, and although initially mocking this I soon shut-up once I had tasted it, delicious and drizzled with a sweet yet spicy satay sauce. Sea Bass for the main course was also delicious. It isn't cheap student food here but a proper grown-up restaurant in the heart of student land.

The Box is a really nice trendy bar in the student area of Headingley. It does a fantastic quiz night (it used to be on a monday) where you can win free wine in the break for the quiz. It has a huge screen where they often show the football / rugby and it also sells absolutely delicious food. Upstairs there are quite a few pool tables and another bar but it is big enough to still be able to sit down on a fri / sat night. It generally plays indie music and is popular with students and youung professionals alike.

I had been in the original oak with my friends four or five times and, as a previous reviewer has said, dismissed it as an 'old man' type pub. I went in with my brother in the summer who went straight up some steps as we went in (which I had never seen before!) and it was like entering a different pub! The upstairs is more modern, lighter and more airy than the downstairs. The best, however, was yet to come. We went on a Friday night in August and it was (shockingly) sunny, the upstairs opens out onto a massive beer garden and I mean massive, loads of picnic benches and seating and big umbrellas, easiest the best place for summer drinking in Headingley if not Leeds!

busy student pub cheap drinks
The headingley taps is definitely a student pub. Outside of term-time it's actually not that busy, but when the students are about it is extremely packed especially on a weekend. They have good price offers on bottles of wine and it is an absolutely massive pub. Has a decent sized seating area for the summer months and it shows quite a lot of sport although I tend to avoid it on these days! It has a typical pub menu with some cheap specials (for the students!). All in all a fun pub and a definite stop when drinking around headingley.

Aire of the Dog is a strange place, attempting to be a traditional pub in the heart of a complex containing a cinema, bowling alley, pizza hut and various other (frequently changing!) eateries. It is a popular pub on a weekend with large groups of people heading into town afterwards or coming for a drink after the cinema or bowling. It's decor is slightly tatty now with some ripped seating etc. The food it serves is not too bad, reasonably priced, it is just standard pub grub though. Fine for a drink if you're in the general vicinity but I wouldnt make a special trip for it.
