One of Clerkenwell's best-kept secrets
A great Belgian bar tucked away in an anonymous London alleyway. Food was gorgeous (I went for the clichéd but thoroughly tasty option of moules & frites) and the specials menu looked quite something. The beer was fantastic and the staff knowledgable and chatty.

Now a posh gastro kind of place
Recently redone up, the Wilmington is now a lively place with good music, comfy sofas, nice staff and a pretty decent menu (the Pie Minister pies especially) and a good range of beers too. Nice touch with the tumblers of Hula Hoops as a snack offering.

Pleasant but too eclectic
A nice enough place, but I'm baffled as to the point of this place is - the cutesy playful tone and the really varied menu choice made for confusion - on the menu was Mexican, Japanese, Chinese, Indian... with such a wide range of food it felt like it was trying to please everyone and the result was an OK meal. Jack of all trades and that - if only they really concentrated on one particular style and nailed it right I think it would be really good.

Incidentally, the staff were very friendly and the prices were affordable and I can see what it means by being child-friendly. I'd drop in again if I were passing and peckish but I wouldn't make the effort to specifically go there.

Likeable but not brilliant
Given the number of terrible sushi places in London this one's actually pretty good. But like the other reviewer here, it's the little things that annoy you, especially the disorganised staff (typically three or four different people will serve you through the course of a meal, with inevitable confusion) and the fact you have to squeeze up to a till to pay does grate. Still, the food (especially the sashimi) is good and their heart's in the right place (with their commitment to sustainable fishing). Good for a quick stop-off any time.

A good place to take fat friends to
Not bad - but it did seem to over-prioritise quantity over quality, and the beef I got was neither as tender as full of flavour as I would have expected.

That said, there was lots of it, and if you have a big appetite - or a fan of novelty-sized superbig cuts of meat, then you won't be disappointed. And the atmosphere is nice and lively, and the service fine.

Also the house red wine wasn't too harsh - not expecting world class here obviously, but it didn't complement the meat at all.

Pretty good
You can't book and the decor & style is over-trendy for my liking. And I can't comment on the authenticity of the food. But what we had was really tasty - top-class beef burrito for my friend, while I had the puerca pibil, which was simply delicious - just the right combination of citrus, spices and chilli. Guacamole was a little underwhelming but overall the food was great and the service efficient and friendly.
