Tight squeeze
The Nelsons Head is always busy; and despite this the bar staff always seem to cope well and serve quickly. Jostling for a place at the bar, to the onlooker may seem like a bit of a scrum; but it is all very friendly.

The decor is cosy, if a little dated. Lots of stripped wood and old photos; yet the clientèle is mixed.

It also acts as a live music venue in the summer months, for Blues and Irish Folk bands.

My old local
Stripped wood floors, the eclectic images and dark paintwork always gave this pub a very unusual feel. A popular venue for a mix of cultures, including Kiwi's, Aussies and South Africans. It is very relaxed and safe atmosphere.

The interior is very spacious with plenty of tables and and an ample bar. It can be quiet in the week, but Friday and Saturday nights are often very busy as the pub also hosts live music - mostly local bands and emerging talent.

Real Ale - on the water!
This is a bar with a difference, it is a refurbished barge. Charters is the name of the bar in the hull of the boat, it is quite spacious, with a bar running about 3/4 of the length of the vessel. They stock spirits and lagers, but are best known for their wide range of well-kept ales.

They also regularly host live music events, from Blues to Rock.

The upper deck of the barge is a Thai restaurant called "East" it is a little pricey but the food is lovely.

Popular with the young-crowd
This pub is probably the largest in town and proves popular with a range of ages during the early part of the week; although Thurs-Sat, conversation is often difficult due to the volume of the duke-box and the "packed" nature of the bar.

Dated Interior, but reasonable prices
This one is a little tucked away; one of those pubs you probably only ever find if you have spoken to someone local. It is set in a small retail area, supermarket, cash-point etc. The exterior looks a little worse for wear, but don't let this put you off, the interior is spacious and relaxed.

It appeals to a wide range of ages, stocking largers and Real Ales. It also offers Darts and a regular Pub Quiz.

Well-priced, comprehensive menu. The food is always good quality and the service is consistent, even on a busy Friday or Saturday night. I would recommend booking a table, if you are taking a group of four or more; but mid-week; small groups could probably get a table without booking.
