Do not go to Wokmania expecting the best Chinese food money can buy in Brighton, because you wont get it. The restaurant is an all you can eat, and there is plenty to choose from. It isn’t exactly the tastiest, but novelties such as unlimited drinks and ice creams are good if you’re after something quick (and can't be bothered to wait elsewhere), simple and filling for a group of people in the middle of the day. It is one of those places where you will very likely leave feeling very ill. Wouldn’t head there later in the day, as being on West St is a big negative in the evening.

The only time I've been in Jessops in Brighton (along Queens Road between the train station and clock tower) it was because my wife was picking up some photos she ordered for printing online. We had to queue for 20 minutes before we were told that they didn't have them, and that they would ring us when they came in. We went home and an hour later they rang to say they had found them and that could we come and collect them... not very pleased about this. Shops like Jessops are basically pointless now you can do everything online - as all they do is sell way over-priced sub standard photography equipment and have 20 members of staff crowded behind a desk being obnoxious to customers.

There is no apple store in Brighton, which is infuriating because we need one!  There has been talk that the bought a site in Churchill Square a year or two ago, but still no sign of it.  Until it appears (come onnnnnn) then Brighton must make do with Solutions.  It's an apple approved retailer which is based just near donatellos restaurant in the lanes.  I haven't been all that impressed and although i've been in there at least three times, i have never bought anything because they never have what I need.  One time I was looking for a laptop stand which was about £30 on the apple website, and in Solutions they didn't have anything cheaper than about £45!  It's alright if you need something for your mac instantly, but seeing as apple ship in 24 hours- and often even less - then I don't think it's too great a substitution.

I don’t know what it is about Subway, but no matter how many times I have been to one and been disappointed I seem to end up walking past one hungry and convinced I’ll get something good to eat. This one is no different, it lures you in with that smell of fresh bread which seems to be non-existent inside. Always really bland (despite you being confronted with such a large variety of things to have in your sub) and expensive and the staff have got being rude and ignoring what you have asked for down to a t. I’d avoid it if you can, no matter how tempting, you’ll leave with a soggy bit of bread, some bad salad, and thin watery wafers of turkey (even if you can't stand it).

Donatello is one of many many cheap italian restaurants in the lanes in brighton. but this is not a bad thing - it means they all have to be competitive and do good offers. At lunch times, you can get a pizza or a pasta dish here for just £3 and it's good tasty food. Last time we went here it was a bit disappointing because they were redcorating the inside of the restaurant, so the walls were bare plaster and there were tools and dustsheets lying around!! this was about six months ago though so it must be finished now, and every other time we've been it's very nice. gets very busy at peak times but the good value and set menu make it worth the wait.

Velvet is like my wife's favourite shop ever.  I dread going down bond street in Brighton's lanes, and George Street in Hove because they have a branch on each and she refuses to just walk past!  They sell all kinds of girly things like chandeliers - some traditional crystal ones, some colourful bright ones - and kitchen stuff, decorative bits for the house and jewellery.  they have some really fancy looking mirrors which are quite cool and grand, and they have nice bits of garden furniture in a kind of old french style - lots of roses and white painted iron, that kind of thing.  It is a pretty specialist shop and everyone who visits us in brighton goes in to have a look.

Churchill Square is just off Western Road and is the biggest shopping centre in the area. There is plenty of parking, and at around one pound an hour it is the cheapest place you can park anywhere in Brighton.

The shopping centre itself is pretty good, with all the major shops you would expect: Game, Zavvi, Debenhams, H Samuel, Paperchase, W H Smith, Thorntons, Carphone Warehouse and many many more. There is a few places to eat such as the Cornish Pasty Co. and a pretty reliable burger van that always seems to be doing well!

Be wary on weekends for the large number of moody teens congregating outside H & M, the large number of tourists packing it out in the summer... and be well prepared if you head there during the Christmas shopping period, I have never seen somewhere so packed!

Choose yourself the most disgusting drink possible
Shakeaway is one of those novelties that is well worth a visit when you are in Brighton. The whole principle is pretty basic, choose from a massive selection of sweets, cakes, chocolate bars and all sorts of other things; get it blended with ice cream and enjoy the delightful mess that they have made for you. The damn things can get pricey and having five or more different things in a shake is a fantastic way to make yourself feel violently ill. I'd recommend Reeces Cups and Mars bar! Ha.

It is a bit of a pity though that you soon realise you can do better by blending up your own one at home for cheaper and it ends up being smoother.

The Preston Park hotel is unsurprisingly right near Preston Park in Brighton. It was good value as far as hotels in Brighton go, but there are a few clear reasons. Breakfast was ten pounds a head (er, no thank you), the room was pretty damn sparse. Actually finding the room was like navigating a maze, and the walls were so thin you could hear the slightest sound from the room next door. This did not help one bit when someone decided to start wailing and playing an acoustic guitar at half three in the morning. It is pretty far out of town, so if you are not taking a car it can be a bit of a pain to get to and from.

Montezuma's is definitely worth visiting if you are a big chocolate fan. They sell a great selection of chocolate bars (grabbing a selection of the various flavoured small bars is a great idea!) and truffles made locally. Some of the dark chocolate stuff they sell is fantastic, including the chilli chocolate (it is very spicy, well worth a try if you have not had it before). Champagne truffles make a great gift, and it is a fair bit fancier then getting the equivalent from Thornton’s! Do not go in expecting to leave with handfuls of chocs for your money though. It is pricey stuff, so take your time eating it all!
