Ok, so here's the contrary view! I don't doubt that this place can be good, but my experience was a little different. I went with an Italian friend who described the menu as "old fashioned favourites", which sounded perfect. The place was buzzing and full and although they had no recollection of my reservation, they found us a table nevertheless. Service was a little haphazard (we waited a while for our starters, then they brought our order twice - I wish we'd tucked in for a second time!) Mains and deserts were tasty but not grand. Total with a bottle of wine? £100 - so not too expensive given its location. The best part of the night was spotting a US tourist carrying a huge box of Krispy Kreme in a see-through Harrods bag. What a waste of air miles!

Good service, great squid, perfect tortilla and two large beers for £9pp. Fantastic, given the location. A really good, inexpensive eatery close to Fulham tube but hidden away from the slightly chaotic Broadway.

For those seeking dribblingly delicious Mexican fare only ('Old El Paso' lovers need not apply - there's nothing remotely resembling a chimichanga here!) Famous for bringing real tacos to London, I'd put this marvel of a place in my top 10 London restaurants - and would willingly walk the marathon on my hands to keep this place open. Don't expect a romantic setting or a quiet meal. This place is bustling with smiling, salivating customers.

Not bad, not great
I was keen to revisit my days lazing on the golden sand of some of the most beautiful islands on the planet. So Filipino food it was and Josephine's seemed like a great spot to indulge in a bit of culinary wistfulness (Charlotte Street on a summer's evening is a must).

Sounds like a win-win situation right? Not quite. I'll be honest (but fair). Firstly, we had a lovely time. The service was attentive and the place itself is a reasonable mix of faded-cheeriness.

The food? Well, this is where it all went a tad awry. The stuffed squid was tasty (if something of a 'seafood mess'), but the beef & peanut casserole was thick with, um, tastelessness. It all seemed to lack authenticity.

It wasn't a poor meal, but it wasn't a good one either. A real shame they haven't taken advantage of what's essentially a first class location...

Best Italian for many, many miles
So as the sun comes out and people start flocking into Richmond, here's a quick tip for you Italian fans out there. It's called A Cena (literally 'To Supper' I think) and it's on the lhs just over Richmond bridge. Book if you want to go - it's popular among the locals for a VERY good reason.

But it IS good. I've been a number of times and it's very consistent (sit in the window seats and you get jealous glances from those in the know who walk past). That's probably gushing enough, but if you want a great Italian meal followed by a scenic walk along the river this is the place for you.

Authentic
So here's my take on this great little place. Food all seems to be freshly prepared - and the place has a really varied selection.

We ordered WAY too much - and worryingly seemed to get through it all. The set menu is cheap too if you want to REALLY save the pennies. This is one of the most authentic Chinese restaurants to be found in London.

If you're in town and you want some great Chinese food this is the place to go for a supremely good quick fix.

Ok, so it's close to where I work, but if you're looking for a good value Japanese with a decent selection of sashimi and a really rather wonderful pork belly dish in the Hammersmith area, then go and try. Staff always give you a warm welcome and I've never had any issue with the service...so enjoy!
