Beautiful gem
This hotel surprised us. We fancied a last minute get away and picked it at random from the www.frenchconnections.co.uk website because it looked quiet and suited our purses! We arrived disheveled and tired and were greeted by friendly staff who wasted no time in getting us to our room. After a quick shower we spent a lovely evening wandering around the surrounding countryside before returning for dinner, and what a dinner it was! The page on French Connections (http://www.frenchconnections.co.uk/en/accommodation/property/5476?u_id=148515) had prepared us somewhat, but it absolutely blew us away.
The next day we spent on the beach, which was a short drive away. We'd considered eating by the seafront somewhere, but ended up returning back to the hotel for more of the same.
The only thing I would have liked was to have gone in winter so we could have sat in front of a roaring log fire - but I've already penciled a return into the diary for Christmas!

The Whole World Cafe
The Whole World Cafe is situated half way down The Old High Street in Folkestone. Once renowned as a fairly awful area, the Creative Foundation have renovated most of the properties into quirky, arty shops and galleries, and The Whole World Cafe offers a fantastic break from climbing back up the hill from the harbour. The food is all locally sourced and vegetarian - as a committed carnivore I was originally skeptical, but was quickly won over by the gorgeous food on offer. And the cakes! So good. You can also see the pride that they take in the coffee as well, as each cappucino has a different design put on the top with chocolate sprinkles. Little touches like that make it really worth a visit.
It's a real family friendly place with comfy sofas and local art on the walls. I highly recommend it, especially the cake.
