Good night out!
Route is the student haunt for a Thursday night out in Colchester. There are always a lot of University of Essex students in there myself being on of them. Route plays all the modern pop and rock tunes as well as slightly more cheesy pop tunes. Be warned though it is not a large place and you cannot easily escape people you do not want to see. The atmosphere is always good, especially at Christmas or if there has been a bar crawl called Smashed that ends in Route happening. This is a lively club with good drinks promotions and makes for a great night out!

The Alex is a lively bar where you will find much of Southend’s student population throughout the year. It is home to the indie and rock scene in Southend. The Alex is a pub with the yellow card, allowing holders of this card cheaper drinks and special promotions. During the day it is open to all but at night becomes an over eighteen venue. There is also club Alex upstairs which houses live music events and also sometimes holds charity events. Most popular with the Alex is pound a pint night on a Tuesday where the queue often extends around the block. Not for the over twenty fivers though…

Yummy and authentic!
Zizzi is a great, friendly Italian restaurant that specialise in pizza and related dishes. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are quite reasonable also. The atmosphere was very lively and friendly and the place was clean and tidy. The staff were very friendly and catered to your every need, The food was delicious and the restaurant is situated just outside the centre of town, so you could easily have a meal here before going out for the evening. Overall this was a pleasant dining experience in a great little, unknown restaurant. A brilliant and lively find in Colchester town.

The Roebuck is a bright and lively family pub that is suitable for all ages during the day. They provide a comfortable place to share a lunch with friends or just to chill out and relax with a drink in hand. The food that they serve is well priced and tasty. They also do specialist nights such as beer and a burger night and a curry night which are always popular. The Roebuck is situated on Rayleigh high street and is in a good location to discover the rest of Rayleigh. This is a great place to start off your night. Also the prices are brilliant!

Varsity is and exciting and dynamic bar cum restaurant in Southend on sea. It offers many lunchtime and evening food dishes, from sandwiches and baguettes to full blown meals such as scampi and chips. The food is reasonably priced and very yummy. They also offer a menu that offers a certain number of dishes for a set price, which provides great value for money!! The nightlife in Varsity is also great, it allows you to have a drink and sit down whilst there is also a dance floor and a big screen showing music videos. Great atmosphere and a great way to start your night!

The Last post is excellent for a cheap and friendly night out with friends in Southend. They sell cheap food and cheap drinks and all the staff are polite and helpful and friendly and helpful. The food is general bar food such as burgers and spag bol etc. The food comes out hot and if there is a problem the staff are quick to rectify it. This is also a great place to start off a night out in Southend as you can buy a pitcher of drink for less than seven pound. A trademark on the Southend scene, this huge pub is a must to start off your night!

Bad customer service
I have previously visited Frankie and Benny’s a number of times over the past year but on my last visit I was disappointed by the lack of service that was given by staff members. We received sub standard level service right from the very beginning. The food was brought out and most of it was fine, however there were a couple of dishes that were not edible (for example the meatballs were hard and undercooked). I called over a waitress and when I complained she rolled her eyes at me and walked off then returned and said she could replace the meal but as all the other diners had finished by this time we asked for it to be taken off the menu. This was the worst customer service I have ever experienced in a restaurant, the staff were rude, miserable and did not want to help. Do not visit this restaurant if you value customer service in any way.

MAYHEM ROCKS!
Mayhem is the ultimate place to go in Southend on Sea for a great night out. The staff are friendly and work fast and hard to make sure that they reduce the queues around the bar areas. The drinks are cheap, especially on a Monday when drinks are two pound all night long. They provide a number of different nights, Monday is a good night, they play indie music and the atmosphere is great! Even if you are not a huge fan of indie music then you will still have a fab night if you are with the right bunch of people. With various promotions on drinks and entry Mayhem would be the best choice for a great night out in Southend!!

Going....going...gone....
I used to love going to Talk, especially on Student nights (on a Tuesday) however these days Talk has sadly gone down hill A LOT!! I cam home from uni with big expectations to go back to Talk and have great night out but I was severely disappointed! On one of my most recent visits to Talk the place was almost empty and stayed that way all night! Even on results night they did not manage to pull in the crowds. This results in a severe lack of atmosphere and the only way to enjoy your night is to make sure that you go with the right group of people, because it is them that will create the great night out. The drinks promotions are only ever on drinks that taste gross too. The other think about Talk is the DJ's that encourage the status of the "Essex Girl". If there was to be one reason not to go to Talk it would definitely be the sleazy DJ's who seem to think it is their god given right to see the breasts of all the girls in Essex. Also there seems to be a lot of underage people in Talk nowadays.....

Chinese all you can eat
I enjoyed Aroma the first time I visited it, but on subsequent visits I have been left a little disappointed. The choice of food is quite varied; there are a lot of different dishes. I would say that this is a good place to try Chinese if you have never tried it before, however the food is not always replenished immediately so sometimes there is a lack of a certain dish. This restaurant often gets very busy and I find that it becomes very noisy especially when there are a lot of large parties dining there. The choice of dessert is very good for a buffet restaurant, they offer, fruit, ice cream and many cakes along with traditional Chinese desserts. There is also a tepanyaki bar where you choose your ingredients and the chef cooks it for you which is also very nice. Overall this restaurant is good value for money but can become very noisy and crowded on most nights.
