Drinkies by the water
When you look at this building from the outside it’s hard to believe it was only built in the last few years! The design is the perfect combination of a good old fashioned pub, with beams, nooks & crannnies, different levels, but without years of nicotine and crumbling plaster.
The ingenious design means if you enter through the front door pedestian entrance, you are at street level – but street level where the road goes up over the Bridgewater Canal – so you’re quite high up.
Once inside, the pub is arranged on several levels, dropping down to “canal level” where you can go in and out via the outside seating area & car park. Top place to sit if it’s fine is the moored pontoon – you feel like your sitting on a boat, and it has the benefit of an all weather awning, patio heaters, and glass screens to shelter you from the wind.
I did see one unfortunate lady come rushing through the car park and bounce onto the pontooon, apologising to her friends for being late. As she waved her arms about, she let go of her keys, which disappeared with a plop into the 6” stretch of water between the moored pontoon and the canal bank. OOPS!
Good range of beers, all day carvery (always reliable), and if you want lighter bites, nice range of things like hot beef sandwiches, goats cheese & roasted pepper on baguette.
