There's not a whole lot of choice apart from pizza though lasagne etc are available but there is a massive choice of pizza toppings. If you fancy haggis with marshmallow and anchovie pizza then this is the place to satisfy your craving. There is a huge selection of ingredients from which to make your more usual combinations to choose from which are delicious. The starers are pretty standard such as nachos and butterfly wings but its not fine dining you're here for and its all nice and tasty. Reassuringly the kitchen is in plain view which is always good. A great spot in the grassmarket and if we ever get a sunny day the outside tables will be nice.

Good grub
This has been open for years and if it aint broke... It's in an excellent location for either nights in old town or new and handy for the station if travelling in.
The food is excelent with the mole poblemo (chicken in chocolate sauce) being interesting and tasty and all the usual fajitas, burritos and chimichangas available. From Stag do's (including my own which must be a recommendation) to family meals out with the kids this place caters to all. There is a good selection of mexican beers -including my favourite bohemia- and the marguritas are great too!

Great value
It's not high class cuisine but there's a good choice of food which will keep almost everyone happy. Of the chinese bufets in town this is the best I've tried and the food is always good and plentiful. Lots of the usual favourites and the odd unusual dish. The highlight is the duck with pancakes (dinner only unfortunately so a bit of a let down at lunch times).
There's a good choice of deserts with tasty cakes as well as ice cream, jelly or banana fritters.
The staff are friendly and efficient with groups and children well catered for and birthday cakes and awful songs played if requested. I's also in a great spot in town and handy for the castle terrace car park.

dissapointing
I've always used the edinburgh co-op in the past but have been badly dissapointed with my recent purchase of a courier race disk. While the bike is great value the service has been poor. After the 6 week service the bolts attatching the spider to the front crank were only hand tightened and although it had been under lock and key since purchase they refused to take any responsibility and maintained I must have loosened them as they wouldn't have left them loose. Mistakes happen but the refusal to admit them is grating. Also poor advice on accessories. Still good value bikes but not as good service as in previous years.

This is a great local mexican tucked away down a side street in Tolcross so not too far out od the city centre. Best to book at weekends as it's not too large inside and can get quite busy. The only downside is that it gets very smoky inside as the evening progresses but the food is delicious with all the standard mexican dishes as well as the odd special which are usually tasty. The deserts are tasty (in particular the fried ice cream is nice) and there is a good selection of mexican beers and tequila. Good value as well.

central and good value
A lot more visible than its old location in a wee close this restaurant is in Hunter square just off the royal mile so VERY central. Food is french and very tasty. From rast lamb with mash to lovely savoury crepes with tasty fillings. The crepes are probably the main draw here and it's certainly filling stuff and very tasty. Food is good value with 2 and 3 courses only a wee bit more expensive than a single course so it's easy to treat yourself!
The puddings are excellent although on occasion the normally delicious chocolate tart has been a bit burnt.
Good value too!

Hot Stuff
Excellent wee local deli in tolcross with a second store in Glasgow. It really sets the scene with dried chillis hanging from the ceiling and loads and loads of Spanish, American and mexican food with dried chillis galore, every hot sauce you can imagine and plenty of jars of things you've never seen before with spanish labels.
Very helpfull staff and a great place to stock up on unusual itms before cooking. The smoked black pudding is particularly tasty and goes well in a chilli. The main downside is that its very easy to get carried away and sped far too much here and it's just a shame they don't stock the mild banana peppers anymore. mmm!

A nice spot to stop at if you're with wee kiddies. There is a soft play which tyou can watch on a tv screen so they can play while you enjoy some of the delicious cakes. Lots of tasty home baking is available as well as a selection of some nice main meals as well as all the usual teas, coffees hot chocolates and a few beers such as caley 80. In terms of location it's also nice and handy for a walk along the portobello promenade afterwards to burn off the delicious cake. A bit pricey but good quality food.

Not as good as it used to be
As the other reviews have said Khushis is an old Edinburgh favourite but each time they have moved to bigger buildings they seem to have gone downhill slightly. The new place is very impressive and well appointed but the staff can be a bit brisk with you and when it's busy there can be a wait to be served. Also the prices have crept up and it's no longer the brilliant value it once was which is a shame given there's so much more competition from good indians now. During the festival the cooking was a let down for the first time with a very watery korma but hopefully that was a one-off. It's still well worth popping in for a bhuna though and is still my favourite curry house in town.

This is a wee gem of a takeaway. It's nothing fancy to look at without a restaurant with only a couple of stools to perch on if you want to eat in but the staff are very friendly and the food is delicious. In around 10 years of using this place I've never had a bad meal which is pretty good going by anyones standards.The food covers all the usual chinese fare and while not being different to most other menus there's more than enough choice to suit most groups. The prices are very reasonable and it's in a great location just where west port meets the grassmarket. The only downside is that it doesn't deliver but hey the exercise of walking is good for you.
