Brilliant family entertainment
One of the best family friendly nights of entertainment available in Belfast at the moment. If you have never been to an ice hockey game you really do not know what you are missing. It is the fastest team sport in the world, with hard hitting player to player impacts, upwards of sometimes 9 or ten goals a game, great skill and tactical play and of course the part everyone talks about the possibility of a fight breaking out between players. People go to watch ice hockey for the fights and come back for the sheer fun and entertanment of the game. Speaking of entertainment on game nights , there are prizes galore given away for free. The best of which has to be the t-shirt cannon which fires Subway sandwiches and t-shirts into the crowds. The only truely cross community sport in northern ireland, their motto is "in the land of the giants everyone is equal." Not the cheapest night out with adult tickets costing £13 quid but well worth the money for a special treat or for a childs birthday

Best Chippy In Carrickfergus
Easily and by far the best chip shop in the area. The chips themselves are always crisp, non greasy and perfectly cooked. The pasties especially are very very good. Excellent value for money my wife and I can both be stuffed stupid on less than a fiver. Its so good I have to actually stop myself eating in it maybe 4 times a week. Staff are very fast, and no matter how big the queue I am very rarely in it for more than 10 minutes from start to finish. Only draw back is they can sometimes not be the friendliest perhaps as a result of working in a busy, hot chippy all day. Tons of parking available in the row of shops that used to be occupied by Crazy prices and is now a local Co-op store.

Cheap and Cheerful shame about the weekend crowd
Fantasic location, smack bang right in the middle of High Street in Carrickfergus. Food served is basic and not exactly cooked to Gordon Ramsey standards but is perfectly edible, and for the price there is definately no place for complaints. Drink prices are simply the cheapest in the area, usualy by a huge margin per round. As such though, this is where the problem comes in. At the weekends especially the crowd can be rough, get in before 9 o'clock for a cheap family meal you'll be fine. Any time after this be aware there may be intimdating crowds of 18 - 21 year olds outside and the odd scuffle breaking out with Bouncers.Check out the mid week offers like Curry nights or Steak night - fantastic value for money for a quick cheap and hassle free mid week family meal. The Desert range is not amazing though, and perhaps could be expanded

Terrible service
Every single time I have been in here, and I keep going back thinking this time It will be better, the service has been diabolical. The time from when you take your seat to the time your order is taken can be as long as 25 - 30 minutes. Then it's a further 30 minutes until your food arrives. Also this franchise doesn't run some of the promotions Pizza Hut runs in some of its' other locations so If you've seen an ad on tv and thats what has driven you there to try it, double check before ordering as deals may not be the same or available at all. Generally when the food eventually arrives it is of the usual medium standard that Pizza Huts everywhere offer. Only restaurant in Carrickfergus to offer free drinks refills. As this is such common place in the states it is still hard to believe we as consumers let restaurants get away with not giving us the same deal north maericans avail of.

Great for a sit in meal
If you are looking for an Indian meal in a more formal setting the Indian Ocean is a great choice. Out of the two sit in restaurants in the Carrickfergus area this one is by far the better. The decor is excellent, very classy and perfectly styled to the restaurant. The menu has everythingon it that you would hope to find in an Indian restaurant. Friendly and efficient staff who are only too happy to explain any item on the menu that you may not be sure of. The menu has a star rating for the hotness of currys, so people who may not be as knowledgeable as others can still make an informed choice. Try the Kingfisher beer, 've never been able to find it anywhere else other than Indian restaurants, crips and clear with such a plesant after taste well worth trying. An average meal including wine for three courses would usually come to between £18 - £20. Huge portions every time I've eaten here and every time I try to try something new.

Nice food and atmosphere
The Knockagh Lodge is now a long and well established restaurant and party/special occaision venue in the area. Food has always been of a very high standard every time I have visited. A lovely view over farmland and then on down to the shores of Belfast Lough create a nice place to enjoy a meal. Staff have always been friendly and efficient. The last time I was there was for a function for over 200 people for Carrickfergus Gateway. The service was excellent the food warm and very very good, considering the numbers of people being served this was no small feat. The sunday carvery can also be well reccommended, very popular so I advise getting there as soon as possible so as to ensure you can get a table. Drinks prices are on par with any hotel I've drank in, nothing too horrendously priced but nothing overly cheap either. Food prices ae good value for the quality and large portions on offer. Has a range or rooms for parties and special occaisions from rooms that hold 200 plus, to rooms for around 50 guests.

Excellent Themed Restaurant
The Thunderdome Cafe could eaily be described as Northern Irelands own home grown version of the Hardrock Cafe, which bizarely has actualy been opened longer than the Belfast Hardrock Cafe was. Technically just on the outskirts of Glengormley but the site could not find that lol. This is the choice for our family birthdays, anniversary or celebration meals. The decor is fantastic lots of stuff on the walls just as it should be in a venue like this. Full size motorbikes on display, a real rally car sitting in the corner, signed boxing and other sports and movie memorabelia on the walls. the hand dryers in the toilets also have to be checked out to be believed. That may sound bizare but try them and you'll see what I mean they nearly blow the skin clean off your hands lol. Staff have always been friendly and efficient. The menu itself is very good and varied just what youy would expect from a themed restaurant. The Steak pie is especially good. Prices are reasonable and the portions are very generous.

Best kebabs in Carrickfergus
Easily the best Kebabs In the Carrickfergus area. Large portions are the norm right accross their range of dishes. Prices are reasonable and delivery times are very good even at busy weekend periods. Popadoms free with most curry dishes, and salad comes free with most kebabs. Mango chutney from here is especially good and I can also recommend the house sauce for Kebabs. Wide range of Nan Bread choices available and they are huge. Often one Chicken Jalfrazi meal is enough for 2 people to eat and be full. Don't let the downmarket appearance fool you - it does look like a bit of a dump from the outside but the hygiene standards are very high. Parking can be a problem due to its location on busy and resedential Ellis street but take advantage of the home delievery option and this won't be a problem for you

Unbeatable Sea View
Fantastic location on Carrickfergus Marina, there is really no better pub in Carrickfergus to sit outside of or even inside of and look out the window of on a summers day. Food is reasonable, touch on the expensive side perhaps for what you get. Popular with the younger crowd at the weekends and unfortunately this leads to a lot of fights outside it( and occasionally inside it ) on a sat and sunday evening. Live music generally is very good with a range of cover acts being the norm. Caters for parties and events like weddings etc. One of the more expensive places in the area for drinks, standard range of the usual on offer. Staff are neither fantastic or poor, they are just there queues at the bar can be horrendous at the weekends. Avoid on Saturday and sunday nights and call in for a quiet lunch during the week especially the summer and you'll love it.

Bad crowd can let it down.
On paper The Joymount Arms or "Ownies" as it is more commonly known around town should be the best bar in Carrickfergus. Recently underwent a refit that must have cost an absolute fortune in order to prepare for the smoking ban. The smoking area at the rear of the building is fantastic with an open fire for the winter months, plenty of seating and patio heaters as well as plenty of cover to keep the rain off. Excellent video juke box if you like a bit of backround music with your pint. Good range of domestic and international beers on draft as well as the usual spirts , wine and bottled beer selections. The main drawback is the bad crowd it gathers. Trouble breaks out outside it almost every night. I have even seen one of the bouncers attack a punter, for the punter to then be thrown out. By all means go in during the day - but avoid like the plague at nights and especially weekend nights.
