Crouch End has a Starbucks and A Costa but the best coffee and best atmosphere - not to mention the best smells - are to be found at Honeycomb. They do lovely cakes here - the danish pastries and pain au chocalat are amazing and if you have a little one with you they do miniature 50p versions. The sandwiches are good here and what I especially like is the brown, granary style baquette - you don't see them too many places. But mainly I go here cos it's just a really pleasant, unfussy, good value place to go - and you can nearly always get a table. I love it.

Brilliant for kids
I've been going to Pizza Bella for about 20 years. First with friends and now with my kids. It may not be the best or trendiest pizza restaurant around but for my money it is certainly the friendliest. The waiters here are fantastic - especially with children. Once when I went there they overheard me and my wife wishing our daughter a happy birthday and at the end of the meal (without us requesting it) brought us a huge ice cream desert full of sparklers. It's thoughtfulness like that that keeps us coming back.
They do great beer here - Moretti I think it's called - and some interesting pizzas.
I'd come here even if I lived the other side of London. Fortunately it's just down the street.

Needs more Zaz
Went to this branch of Zizzi with some 2 for one vouchers from a magazine and was really chuffed that these vouchers were honoured and we could pick from the whole menu.
The positives - Good decor, food not spectacular and very much veering towards the functional (pizza express and ask are run by the same company and this feels in line with them quality wise) but the prices are good. What was great here was the staff, especially the manager who we could tell was working really hard to keep everyone happy and had a great manner about him.
The negatives - It's not a biggy but I think if the menu lists ingredients then the dish you ordered should include those ingredients. the dish i had advertised field mushrooms but arrived with cheap (tinned looking) button mushrooms.

Go for the novelty not the food
This chain has either gone downhill or the standard of sushi elsewhere has gone up - I'm not sure. But as a sushi addict who's been to this Poland Street at least twice a year since it opened I'd say it's a bit of both.
If you've not been it's worth popping in for a small snack for the novelty experience of choosing your food from a conveyor belt and your drinks from a little robot. But beware - it is very very expensive and the quality, while OK, is not high. Most worrying of all is the hygiene - something you could never accuse most sushi places of lacking in. Seeing as the kitchen is on full view you can see exactly what the chefs get up to and while I was there I saw a knife being taken straight from a sink of murky washing up water and used to chop some fish. it put me right off and to be honest i doubt if I'll go back.

Pricey but good
The ups - You get a unique perspective of London. Once you at the highest point it's really interesting to see the spread of the streets beneath. So often we think of London in terms of the tube map but from the London Eye you see it as it really is - and man is it crowded.
The wheel itself is an experience, you don't have to wait long to get on board and because there's only 25 people in each pod it's not overcrowded.
The downs - it's way too expensive and if you've bought tickets upfront (it's a bit cheaper buying online i think) then there's no clear system of what you're supposed to do or where you're supposed to go when you arrive.
It's great though and I'd recommend it to all, not just tourists.

Go for the deals
Really love it here and have been back a few times. Two reasons why - the food is greaty. chicken dishes fab and mussel dishes also but best of all the deals. if you arrive between 5 and 6.30pm you pay the price (from a small set menu) of the time you arrive - and that includes a glass of beer or coke. Also if you have kids they eat free.
Other reasons if you need them - they have a great range of beers, the staff (dressed inmonks costumes) are always friendly and the toilets are unique and an attraction in themselves.
