Great Little Pub
The Brook Green Inn can be found just opposite the Exeter Football Staadium. It is an old building with lovely leaded windows. It is a busy friendly pub. There are lots of photos on the walls of the outlandish, lively and very fun nights that they have there. During the day it is quite quiet. They do play the main football matches. There is a small beer garden. There is a pool table and darts board. They do very good and reasonable pub grub. I would highly recommend this pub for a great night out or a quiet drink during the day.

A great laugh!
My wife and I thought we would try bingo one night when we were bored and had nothing to do. We thought it would be a good laugh and it was definitely that!

We found that it was a little but expensive. We did not have a clue what we were doing but it did not take too long to get into. The staff were quite helpful at explaining things to us before we went in but as soon as we were in the main bingo hall, it was survival of the fittest!

The funniest bit is the lack of support between players. If someone gets bingo everyone else sighs and huffs. Nobody is ever pleased for anyone else. Very amusing!

It was a great night out!

Actually not at all bad!
We used Tesco Metro in Exeter as our main place to shop for years. It is quite small and does not have a vast selection of stock. However, we always found that it had everything we needed. The selection might not have been as vast as a very large supermarkets but the shelves were always well stocked and so if they stocked it, you would find it.

The staff are in the main very helpful and well informed. They are willing to have a chat as they are sorting your shopping. I like this as in some supermarkets these days the staff are very vacant.

The prices are probably slightly more than the bigger supermarkets, as is inline with mini supermarkets in towns, but we never found it to be expensive.

Central
Exeter Central is very conveniently situated right in the centre of Exeter (the name is a little bit of a give away!). It is just a short walk from the shopping centre of Exeter. The station itself is kept reasonably clean and the staff are generally very friendly and helpful. There are two platforms. They are currently installing a lift but at the moment there is no way around the stairs down to the platforms from the street. The only downside of the station is that trains to most significant destinations in the UK go from St. David's, out of town. It is a 15 minute walk between the two stations. Trains do run between the two however.

Bootiful
Exeter Cathedral is magnificent. From the outside you can sit on the large green and gaze up at the powerful buttresses and large patterned windows. From the front you can see many statues of saints. One or two are women and have had their heads removed many years ago, as it was considered disrespectful of religion to have a woman in such an important place on a cathedral. Inside, the high ceilings are beautiful and it provides a fabulous venue for musical concerts. There are a number of small pretty and interesting lady chapels. You now have to pay to get in, unless you say you are going to pray in a side chapel, but even then it can be embarrassing if you refuse so be prepared. It is well worth a visit. The best landmark in Exeter.

Best in the Ex
The Royal Clarence is the hotel that is situated on Cathedral Green in Exeter. It is attached to Michael Caines restaurant (which incidentally is hugely overpriced and not very impressive at all). The hotel is assumed to be very luxurious. It is full of business people and people in posh frocks! This is definitely the most prestigious of hotels in Exeter. However, it is not necessarily the best anymore. I have heard from a number of people who stayed there and were disappointed. The rooms are not as luxurious as you would hope. The bathroom can be seen from the bedroom, which is slightly odd. The staff I have found to be perfectly helpful but also quite aloof. Overall, the Southgate down the road is much better and even has a swimming pool!

A little bit of Russia
Red Square is a fabulous little restaurant in Exeter. It is unusual because it is Russian. The food is not what you might be used to and reassuringly the staff are all very friendly and willing to explain the menu and advise on choices. Everything about the food is exciting. We knew that we were in for something extraordinary when the bread arrived and it was rye.

The restaurant is particularly spectacular in the summer months when you can eat outside in the stunningly gorgeous garden with tall trees and fragrant flowers. The inside is well decorated and smart.

It is definitely worth trying for something a little bit different.

Top of Take-Away Alley!
The Magic Wok is a Chinese take-away and restaurant at the end of Sidwell Street in Exeter. The take-away service is excellent. They deliver and deliver on time, which is always a bonus! The menu is extensive. I would especially recommend their squid which they cook brilliantly. Also their ribs are the best I have tasted in Exeter. The meat falls beautifully from the bone and they are not fatty at all. Even the Mrs enjoys them and she has a phobia about fat on meat!

The restaurant is a little poorly decorated - a bit too pink for me! But the staff are pleasant and helpful. The prices are reasonable.

Shocking Staff Attitude
I love Pizza Express pizzas. They are exactly as Italian pizzas should be. The base is thin, not overcooked. There is plenty of tomato sauce, not too much cheese and a generous helping of chosen toppings. So there is no need for me to go into any further detail about their pizzas in general - stunning is all I can say!

The setting of the Exeter Pizza Express is superb. It overlooks cathedral green and has exposed brickwork and romantic lighting inside. There are also a few tables outside. It is beautiful.

However, this particular restaurant is let down by the staff. The manager is helpful but some of the waiters are rude and incompetent. At the end of a meal they asked if I liked it and I said that it had actually been really salty and not up to the usual standard. The waiter actually said to me, 'well you managed to eat it all' and then walked off! On another occasion, another waiter said my food would arrive more quickly if I didn't interrupt him to ask where it was. I would not eat here again out of principle.

More than just a pub
I cannot recommend the Beerhouse highly enough. It is a pub and restaurant that is situated above its own brewery. The beer is delicious - a choice of light, medium or dark. Medium is my personal favourite. There are plenty of outdoor seats and tables for the summer months. The bar has an open fire and a very homely friendly feel. The restaurant to one side serves incredible food. Try their pies, steaks and fish, though probably not all in one setting because portions are pretty generous. It is not cheap for a pub but the food is not your usual pub grub. It is of restaurant quality. This is an incredible little pub. If you want to eat, you should book, as it gets very busy, especially on weekends.
