The sainsburys with no food...
This store is a big supermarket. Its placed amid other warehouse type stores and the size is similar.
It stocks basically most foods that sainsbutys do. Its all food, -and a Starbucks, plus the usual beauty section, home cleaning/laundry and pet foods. There are no clothes, electrical s (well, maybe half of one side of an aisle). The store overall is clean, tidy and the staff are approachable- even the security guards.
The Starbucks is at the end of the till points is useful for bored partners or screaming children- they can sit outside where if its sunny it can be a lot nicer then inside with all the beeping tills and overhead noise.
The store gets very very busy at 5pm on a Sunday when it shuts, but is otherwise 24 hours (closing at 10pm Saturday until 11am Sunday). And can get crowded from 4pm to 8pm when for some unknown reason, the middle class seem to take herds of children who run around the aisles and scream a lot. For those of us who want our ears- and minds, intact, before 3pm is recommended, and just don't d the weekends!
I usually shop at 10pm, after my day is over, but I don't usually shop here unless I have no other choice- meaning I feel like I am going to faint. But the problem I find with Sainsburys every time I visit post 9,30pm, is firstly, all the newspapers have gone. Tescos will still sell me a paper until 11pm, some stores until midnight, but Sainsburys Charlton? I reckon about 8pm. Irritating.
Next comes to buying foods, well, very simply put, the majority of it is out of stock. And this isn't just the one off, its every time. I have yet to get my shopping here, without at least 30% of it being out of stock. I can understand low stock, but out of stock?? its a big big store! And it happens so often, you'd think the stock controller would deal with that! I am talking big staples like pints of milk- especially skimmed milk, certain varieties of frozen vegetables- I wont even mention other fresh veg which is normally always 50% out of stock. Lemonade- usually diet lemonade, can all just be out, zero, nothing there. I have seen other shelves just empty, in foods I don't buy but haven't really logged them in my mind. Its not abnormal to see empty shelves here, especially midweek, despite the staff constantly stocking up shelves both day and night. Its like someone just visits the store to take all the food off the shelves, and leave everything else intact.
The queues in the store are always long too- weather your shopping at 10am or 10pm, every day, so its 24 hour status is defiantly useful for many people. But be prepared, bring a book to read while you wait upwards of 20 minutes a time.
Unlike many Tesco stores, they do not hold a 24 hour alcohol licence so after 11pm, your on your own.
There are decent toilets here which is always useful, they are far better looked after then most others I have seen in supermarkets, so that's a plus. Along with the friendly staff and the fact that the food that is there, is fresh and good to eat are the very thin margins that keep me returning when I have to.
