The Cut
The Cut is a great restaurant although due to it's location many people don't know it's there. It's a nice size to celebrate with family or friends as it doesn't seat too many. The menu is always well thought out and changes regularly. Due to it's size the service feels very personal without you feeling watched. In summer there is outdoor seating next to the canal.

I always think the downstairs of The Apollo feels a lot like The Brixton Academy and that's probably not such an original thought. The large floor slopes towards the stage so everyone gets a good view. It's a bit rubbish if you're sat upstairs but then don't buy those tickets! the sound is good and the atmosphere is always great.

the Reliance
The Reliance is a really good pub / restaurant. It might not offer you all the excitement you need late on a Saturday night but that's not what it's there for! The food is amazing, my favourite is the twice cooked chips, or re-heated as I ordered. The range of beers is always huge and other drinks are covered. The atmosphere is really nice, although once we did the music quiz and felt a bit out of place as it was pointed out several times that we weren't thirty-somethings. all in good humour though!

Arts Cafe
Arts Cafe is a really nice place to pop in for a drink or a light meal. I tend to meet friends there in the week for some food or for lunch at the weekend but I think it's probably quite hard to get a table on a weekend evening. The menu is really varied and looks like a lot of thought has gone into it. A favourite of mine is the platters. The drinks list is also quite varied.

Silver Jubilee
My family have been going to the Silver Jubilee for nearly twenty years and although we rarely eat in there anymore we still enjoy the takeaway service. The restaurant has always been great value and is one of the best currys in Bradford. Unfortunately the deco has been modernised since we first started going to the restaurant but the service has remained friendly and relaxed.

Holdsworth House
The hotel is set in beautiful grounds just a short drive from Halifax. I attended a wedding here and the three rooms used for the reception were a great size. Our room that we stayed overnight in was well equipped although quite pricey. I was told that the staff were attentive but there were a few problems with things that had been brought to entertain the guests being misplaced. It is somewhere that you would have to sign up for a traditional package to get the most value from the venue. A lot of the guests struggled to find it but there's not too much can be done about the location.

Lead Station
A lovely restaurant in the nicest part of Chorlton with plenty of bars nearby to go for a drink before or after. The Lead Station is always busy so unless you don't mind hanging around I would book. It does have a bar upstairs though where you can wait. The interior isn't huge so you feel like you get quite a personal service. And, although the menu isn't too extensive, it is really high quality food.

The Cornerhouse
The Cornerhouse manages to fill the hole left by larger cinema complexes. The programme at the cinema is well thought out and niether too obscure nor to mainstream. The cinema provides a great experience in a long but large auditorium with great sound. The Cornerhouse is also home to visiting exhibitions and a bar / restaurant and shop. The bar, both upstairs and down, has a great range of wines and beers and the food is quite reasonable. There are often meal and cinema deals which beat the usual Pizza Hut cinema deals. The bar also hosts DJs at the weekend and has been home to Andy Votel's evening B-Music.

Big Hands
Don't be fooled by the shed-like appearance of Big Hands, it might shaped like the leg of a skinny jean but it's full of characters. Big Hands is popular for drinks after a gig at Manchester Academy but it also hoats some great dj nights. The bar is always busy but the staff are quick and if you're persuasive you can usually get a seat. It does lack a dancefloor but if you really want to you can dance where you're stood!

The Temple of Convenience
The Temple is another great Manchester Bar. You'll find it on your left down some stairs if you head from the Cornerhouse to St Peter's Square. The fact that it was a public toilet only adds to its quirkiness. There are a great selection of beers, especially nice Belgian ones and the juke box has a good selection. I have been in when it's been a little flooded from the rain but it really can't be beat in terms of atmosphere.
