Richard Mcgeowan of Couch's delivers some of the best food I have eaten - modern dining, prepared with exquisite skill and TASTY too. Everything is fresh and local, and we know where it comes from, because we source from the same farms ourselves for our B&B guests at Trenderway.

Sushi Indulgence
I have to go here. Shirley from the office cannot stop speaking about it. All you can eat Sushi for about £15, with no compromise on the quality, quantity or variety.

Sign me up for a visit - in fact we have just organised an office assault.

It started so well
Mares was recommended as one of the freshest and best restaurants in Oslo. An ideal place for a celebratory meal for our group following a week's sailing on the Oslofjord.
They agreed a set menu, which was only fair as there were 16 of us.
A decent walk from the centre of town, we were warmly greeted by the proprietor on our arrival and seated on two large table at the back.
A fabulous "amuse bouche" was placed in front of use within minutes, followed by our starter of risotto with truffles which was also exquisite. And then we waited.....

An hour and 30 minutes later, having been ignored with extreme skill by the previously doting waiter we were presented with the smallest main course we had ever seen. It was smaller than the starter! No word of explanation or apology from the staff.

We could not wait for the meal to finish, to pay and leave.
Highly disappointing.
On the way out I noticed that Mares has a Fixed Menu anyway, and guess what, it was cheaper than the price we had arranged when organising the group and had 5 courses to our 3.

Mares, shame on you.

For serious MEAT Lovers only
Talk about BEEF!!! Fantastic steaks lots of instruction about the meat, the cuts, preparation and grilling. And worth it.
Make sure you bring your bank manager or just accept it and self medicate with one of their cocktails.

If you like dulce de lece you will be in heaven. Just don't order the Fruit Fondue, at 8.50 they can for sure serve more fruit then the few small morsels they did.

Hidden Sushi Gem
Fantastic little sushi place equidistant between Old Street and Barbican in a street where sushi is the last thing you expect.
Eat at the tiny bar and watch Chef make up the meals.
Lovely.

Hidden Gem in the heart of the Ice Wine Country
What an unexpected pleasure. In the model village of Jordan in the heart of the Niagara Ice Wine country. It is award winning so I should not have been surprised.

The whole meal was memorable however let me just entice you with my Entree:
Milk Fed Veal and Indian Summer Riesling Parfait truffled Charlie Bee honey and sherry dressed micro greens,fruit mustard, black pepper brioche
and it was superb - so much so that we got a bottle of the Indian Summer Riesling to bring home from the Cave Spring Winery next door.

A perfect place to stop if you are driving back to Toronto from Niagara Falls.

Texas sized Tex Mex
What better way to start an evening of Ice Hockey with a gargantuan Tex Mex meal.
Our hosts took us to the Lone Star grill, a chain that makes its own tortillas and serves "Texas sized" Margaritas.
The foods was simple, tasty and generous - we were surprised that we had the ability to get up to go the game afterwards.
Which, by the way, fulfilled on the brutal promise of North American Ice Hockey - see the pictures!

Seriously BIG food
Great family restaurant with a truly non-smoking section away from the Bar.
Try their Asian style Beef Ribs - perfect if you have dogs, as you will never finish them and even of you do your dogs will love the bones.

Painfully Exquisite
Looking for somewhere to have a last minute special occassion lunch near Belgravia we came across Herrylaw's review and can second every bit of it.
Although we turned up expecting to be sat at the bar, luck was on our side and we ended up getting a fantastic table. Confounded by the extensive menu we placed ourselves in the waiter's hands and were blown over by the flavours, the quality and the service.
Somewhere to keep under your hat for that special occassion - or even more often if your eyes aren't watering from the bill.

Temptation in the City
We needed a nearby location to take a city based friend for a birthday lunch. I remembered this enticing deli front and we wandered down. What a lovely surprise. While it took a while for the staff to notice us, once we were eventually seated everything was perfect. The food was just right, the house wine was inspiring and I remeber that I really should not have had a desert for lunch. But I could not resist the temptation.
The chef signed the menu with a birthday wish! And I spent a ridiculous amount on a tub of Spanish Hot Chocolate which I only ration out on those very cold nights in front of a flame fire!

If you go a for a meal....be prepared to go shopping too as the walls are floor to ceiling shelves heavily laden with must have product
