One of my favourite bars!
One of the most well known (and best) bars in belfast! In terms of live music, this is one of the places to be. On a weekend night there will be a acoustic guitarist downstairs playing in the background while you have a chat with one of your friends. Upstairs on a tuesday is a must for comedy night. six pounds in and you get more comedy than you can shake a fist at. It is always packed so make sure you get there early to avoid dissappointment. The food served is general food like burgers and sandwiches, and also isnt the cheapest, although they do do deals on some of the lunchtime items i think. The atmosphere whether upstairs or down is always fantastic. Highly Reccommend!

Good location
If your anywhere near city hall, then this bar perfectly located for a quick bite to eat or a quiet drink. Blink and you'll miss it, because its actually located downstairs (hence the name the basement!) just past the ulster bank headquarters. There are plenty of tvs for you to watch, so its an ideal place to watch the football, if your in to it that is! Food was your general menu; burgers paninis etc. I had a panini and it was pretty nice, but it was just a panini. If your heading out to a bar in town on a thurs/fri/sat then it is a very relaxing and quiet place to have a quiet drink before getting deafened in a nearby club!

The egg is a bar for people who usually dont get into the bot across the road on any given night. Therefore it is generally quiet until about 11pm. It is a nice bar and if you do like them quiet then you should like it, however for a night out i wouldnt really recommend it. Their food during the day is not bad and is an average price, so if you in the area its handy for a bite to eat. In terms of location, if your a student then its going to be one of the handiest places you can go in belfast as it is central to studentville (Stranmillis, Botanic, Malone). There are a lot worse bars you could end up in belfast so two stars probably isnt fair but i jus think that it lacks any atmosphere.

Excellent for Lunch
I am giving Indie 5 stars on merit of its superb lunch and not its evening dinner, as I have only eaten at lunchtime. I can say that it is without a doubt the best two course meal for £5.95 you will get. For starters I recommend the breadcrumbed mash potato with mince in the middle and covered in bread crumbs (Sorry cant remember the indian name) and any of the beautiful main courses. The staff are always extremely friendly and make you feel welcome from the moment go. The decor is beautiful and very unique. They really take pride in their food and all ingredients are supposedly very natural (ie no additives etc). My parents try to go once a week and love it there, and so do my friends. You wont be disappointed

oisinf hit the nail on the head. The staff are extremely grumpy, and the tables are very cramped. You never feel welcome or properly greeted when you arrive there. The food is basic although you do get decent portions. I know a lot of people who love it there and a lot of students from botanic will eat there on a regular basis; Maybe it isnt just my cup of tea. I suppose if your not too fussed and you need somewhere to eat on botanic avenue then i suggest there, however i would recommend numerous other places along there such as Springsteens or madisons for a bite to eat before i would recommend maggie mays.

Spuds is always the go to place for people coming out of the M Club or laverys after 1am when they are looking for some food. But believe me you will regret eating here the next morning if you could remember what it was like. It is the grubbiest take away i have ever seen and it only received 1 star for hygiene through the government regulated "Scores on the Doors" scheme. Ok you could say its ultimately about the food and not just the decor but even the food is awful. My rule of thumb is usually if a restaurant has to show its food on pictures, it should generally be avoided. There are numerous other places to eat just opposite (including a brand new burger bar!). I would definitely recommend trying there instead :)

This is only to be used in a dire need of alcohol after 1am when there is absolutely no other option. Other than that there is no reason to go near this place. As far as I know it only opens at about 11pm at night but it really isnt that great. The music can be good on occasion but staff are grumpy. As far as I can remember, wednesday night is really the only night for good music. Generally I would just steer clear and go home instead of going here. If you are looking for an alternative venue for after hours you should check out yello (also called mynt during the day) or the Kremlin.

Definitely the best location of any bar in belfast. However it is quite a pretentious bar, and the customers who go are generally stuck up their own a$%! Drink is over priced and is £3 or over for a pint. Food is very good; the restaurant upstairs does excellent meals, and the bar snacks downstairs are always tasty but they are also overpriced. Something like £8.50 for a burger. Also the decor is quite unique and is not to everyones taste. I actually think it is one of the better aspects to the bar. The beer garden is superb however, and a must for a sunny day, but other than that this bar is just overpriced.

This is the busiest bar on the upper Ormeau road. Very much a regulars bar with plenty of regulars there everyday, however you will never feel out of place if its your first time going. Definitely one of the most welcoming bars in belfast I can think of, and sometimes bars can appear very 'unwelcoming'. Staff are some of the best staff ive encountered in the bar trade, and drinks are averagely priced. Couple of tv's planted about the place, other than that it is simply a bar! Any friday or sat night will be busy and you'll always have great craic on either of these nights.

Any thurs, fri or sat night your going to find this place SWAMPED with students. In fact so swamped you can barely move which is why I only give this bar 3 stars. For me its just too busy. It still may only take you about 5-10 mins at most to get a drink as they have so many staff on (who are very friendly) but you cant move anywhere. Nice smoking area/beer garden for anybody that it appeals to. Any big football matches on a sat/sun during the day will be shown upstairs on projector screens and is always good craic. In fact its a must to watch any match.
