Trof is a great venue in a great location. Fallowfield is THE student area and if you're looking for somewhere with plenty of atmosphere and a laid back vibe, this is where it's at. They regularly have different themed nights although expect to here some good laid back, old skool tunes most nights. They serve some great food here and a wide range of food but don't expect to get it on the cheap as Trof is fairly expensive if you're used to some student haunts. Expect it to get fairly busy as the night shuffles on and don't be surprised if you're sat on a table with other random people as space is usually scarce people sit where they can

I used to occasionally go to the ritz for the alternative monday nights after I'd been to the attic for the free band night, was a good progression for the night. Mondays are pretty good, it's cheap in and they have quite a few drink offers so you can usually get some good deals if you buy the right booze. Half the fun is watching people here, if the top balcony is open go up and sit on the couches and watch some crazy dancing for a while, can be a right laugh. But head down once you're in the mood for dancing as the ritz has a spring loaded dance floor so when you jump, you JUMP! It's also crazy to stand on it while everyone else dances, you wobble all over the place.

Been to the late room a few times with friends. It can be abit hit or miss but it's generally quite good and although the drink prices aren't great there's usually some sort of vodka red bull deal on or something so its not too bad. I think I used to go to an event called plastic surgery or something like that, tended to play some old skool hits, indie, motown, etc. So you'd get a good variety of tunes and it also tended to attract an attractive crowd.

The guys here are really nice and friendly, great to chat to after a night out and they'll make sure you get your food asap, no messing about. They've got a good selection of food at great prices and the location is superb, especially if you're leaving Satans Hollow and fancy a proper chicken burger; they use proper chicken breast instead of the rubbish you find in most take aways in manchester. Highly recommended! They also have dinner deals too so check them out!

Jillys can be very hit and miss. They have various nights; thursday, friday and saturday. They change the genres of the rooms every now and then so I can't be 100% on what room plays what any more but ill try a rundown of what i can recall. Fridays is the all nighter where they're open to the ungodly hour of 6am where many choose to collapse in a corner at 4am until 6am then get the first bus home, a grim sight. Also don't be surprised if you see girls and boys walking round with no tops on, it's a very common thing although the girls WILL still be wearing bra's! Jillys gets very hot and sweaty inside so dont go wearing your nicest of clothes, it's abit grungy for that. the main room plays your general garden variety metal, the room to the right as you walk in plays hair metal, the room to the left usually has old electro and industrial and the room behind that tends to play your emo/screamo. Although all of these can change depending on the night.

Great student nights can be had in here, you can get some real bargains. 80p drinks on Tuesdays can be had which is a real steal, especially in somewhere like manchester. Fridays the ladies can get in for nowt and also NUS holders get discounts on all nights so it's well worth taking that along with you. It gets absolutely hammered from about 12 onwards and you'd be advised to get down there a while earlier because the queues get HUGE and you could be waiting around for quite a long time in the freezing cold. Still recommended for a good cheap night out!

Satans is NOT a place for stag/hen nights, ignore the description someones placed on here, it is infact a very good alternative club. Tuesdays is your heavier night with a free bar from 10-11pm and £3.50 entry, expect to see it pretty packed and queues form around 9.20pm til 11pm, once the free bar is closed the queue outside disappears and if you can't be bothered waiting and can get drunk elsewhere beforehand cheap, it might be worth doing so and arriving late. Friday is similar to tuesdays without the free bar although Tuesday veterans call it inferior and Saturday tends to be more Indie.

Bands!
The music box is a great stepping stone venue for local bands. It's a good size in a good location and it's got a good reputation for being the place to play if you're and upcoming band. You'll see alot of rock related events going on here pretty much every week so if thats your scene definately grab a ticket or pay on the door and see some local talent. Weekends can vary alot where some weeks you'll have Mr. Scruff the next you might have a death metal band playing so check the schedules before randomly turning up.

The warehouse project is something everyone has to go to at some point, just to check out the crazy venue under neath manchester train station. I'm informed the events were much better when hosted at the boddingtons brewery although thats now long gone. I had a great time when Felix Da Housecat played and so did everyone else there it seemed although there were a few cons to the event; the toilets, you will have to queue for around 40 minutes to get into a grimey port-a-loo so plan your loo trips as best you can, especially as you dont wanna miss your favourite act and also the sound isn't great in the venue as the acoustics aren't right for music. Still all in all a great experience even if you go just the once!
