Firstly, if you have never eaten a dosa before, you simply must immediately find an Indian restaurant which serves them!
The classic Chennai dosa consists of a huge pancake stuffed with mashed potato and a range of fillings (eg chilli & paneer), served on a metal platter with various dips. This restaurant also serves a huge menu of other Sri Lankan/Indian dishes, all of which are so reasonable, spicy and delicious. The local Asian community all regularly eat there, which is the only recommendation required! It is basic no frills and very reasonable indeed. If you have a large party you can get the GIANT 6 foot dosa to share, which is the HUGEST most impressive pancake I've ever seen! Also, it does serve some meat dishes as well as the vegetarian ones.

Diamond in the rough
The Birdcage is a beautiful pub, more in keeping with trendy Stoke Newington than tired Stamford Hill. But it's not too posh - still maintains a friendy and local feel. It's gorgeously decked out in wood and stone, with a large bar in the centre. I especially recommend it for a lazy Sunday with the papers, followed by their Sunday Roast, which is a rare treat - tasty, well cooked and generous slices of meat, with delicious fresh vegetables and roasties.

Delicious legumes of all colours
The Blue Legume is a lovely friendly family run vegetarian cafe which is often full to bursting point! They do the best salads i have ever eaten - your plate is piled high with all kinds of lovely healthy things. They also do delicious fruit smoothies and juices, coffees, sandwiches and cakes. Highly recommended.

Twinkly turkish delight
The turkish menu is delicious - grills, fish, cassoulets, meze and vegetarian dishes (try the sharing platters for starters, they are amazing). Full of twinkling glowing lamps and candles, it has a lovely ambience at night. The friendly service can't be faulted, and it's good value too. :o)

Overpriced fishy SLAP in the face :o(
We had high hopes for this place – the setting and décor is beautifully rustic yet airy, in the old Oyster company premises right on the beach. We had a romantic treat in mind, despite it being a bit pricey, we are always happy to pay for good food and good service. Unfortunately this was not what transpired and we were sorely disappointed to the point of insult... The service was shoddy with an air of ignorance, pretentiousness and incompetence(people were paying their bills and leaving before the waitresses had even bothered to clear their tables). The food was HUGELY overpriced, and extremely disappointing. Small portions of average food, vegetables charged by the portion for an extra £3 each. (MESSAGE TO RESTUARANTEERS EVERYWHERE – HOW MUCH DO VEGETABLES COST, FOR HEAVENS SAKE??!!) It’s criminal. We had mussels to start (average, mean portion for £7). For mains we ordered the half lobster, which turned out to be a cold salad, with no sauce and served with a spoon of poorly made potato salad (sludgy rubbish potatoes - overcooked and tasteless). Fortunately we ordered fries (frozen cheap ones) and spinach (which was fine) to fill us up. It was all food we could have bought from the fish counter in Sainsburys and saved a fortune. It was really basic stuff. No cooking flair, not even any sauce or seasoning on the lobster. Shocking really. We decided to make a run for it. After waiting AGES for someone to come over so we could ask for the bill, they didn’t rush to clear the table. We were fuming. Then the bill came and was a slap in the face for what we had experienced - about £80 we hadn’t been there even an hour, it was HORRIBLE! Lesson learned, we’ll never eat there EVER again even if our worst enemy was paying for it!

Decadent and special - the best place for miles!
This beautiful decadent little place is the best place to eat in the whole region, yet it's tucked away here in little old Hersham. It is a converted old victorian house - the decor is eclectic, rustic and colourful, with lots of character, nooks and crannies. There's also a pretty garden out back for the summer.
The menu is packed full of mostly good old British classics with a modern twist - the signature starter "cheese pot" is a yummy melted pot of gloucester cheese, mustard and ale served with thick granary bread. Steak and kidney pud, venison & chocolate, and spotted dick are another couple of the hot temptations on the menu. You will never be disappointed... The service is friendly and attentive. Great for any special occasion.
Be warned though, you will eat so much you'll barely be able to walk back to your car! Loosen your belts!

It's a Thai!
We went there for the first time last night. It was a pleasant atmosphere and still quite busy even on a Weds night. Suitably decorated with a huge water feature trickling away and lots of buddhas about. The food was faultless and delicious - we shared thai soup and tempura for starters which were absolutley GORGEOUS and very generous portions.

It wasn't too expensive either - around £50 for 2 including a bottle of house red and a couple of beers. We'll be back!

Best "greasy spoon" type cafe in CP!
Such a lovely warm welcome in this family run cafe. I love it! A regular haunt for breaky and lunch alike, great food and very reasonable.

Gorgeous and glam, excellent food!
A stunning old mansion house, beautifully restored and grandly decorated. Good range of beers and wines, and utterly excellent food. Very nice place to take friends and family alike. Friendly and good service. Beware you need to book to eat at busy times. Also, it can bit a little more pricey than other pubs in the area but the quality is definitely worth it! Melt in your mouth good stuff.

Good old fashioned pub
Traditional pub, with a reasonably priced Sunday roast (rare in CP). Very friendly helpful family run place. Nice to sit outside, but a bit dark inside.
