Excellent Food
This is the best takeaway I've found in Edinburgh, absolutely delicious. It does Indian, Thai, Italian & Chinese and some fusion dishes and we've found everything to be really good. So it's a good option that should please everybody somehow.

Classic Folk Venue
The Royal Oak is a tiny little pub that plays host to lots of fine folk music. It's got plenty of character and it's slightly later license til 2am makes it very popular as everyone congregates to catch a last drink. Have had some fine nights here, quite often get chatting to some of the regulars, though sometimes it's a little wild.

3 course lunch for £5
I often meet friends at this restaurant for a cheap and cheerful lunch. It's an unbelievable price and the food is alright too, I don't know how they manage it. The service is usually fun and charming too. Once I was too late for the lunch deal and the food from their main menu was really delicious.

Delicious Homely Meals
I go to this place a lot when I'm in the centre of Edinburgh. They have really delicious hearty meals and a great salad bar. The trifle is particularly fantastic. There's live music in the downstairs part and it's usually pretty busy, a popular restaurant.

The Pond Bar - worth the journey
This Bar is a little bit out of town but so worth the journey there. It's very funky with ornamental animals on the walls, a fish tank, lots of games to play and a beer garden. Lots of nice beers to drink too, very special.

Waverley Bar - A tranquil haven
This bar is a real find amongst all the dreary style bars and such. It's the only pub in Edinburgh not owned by a brewery and has it's own very distinctive old-fashioned style. It's a very nice quiet place to come and have a drink and look around at the various old artefacts and many old posters that line the walls. Apparently the owner is partial to the quiet life and has been known to just shut the doors if it gets too busy. Upstairs is like the inside of a boat and sometimes hosts live music and poetry events

Black Bo's - 5star Bar
This is one of the best Pubs in Edinburgh, very small and cosy and popular. It's very popular with the local arty set and although usually a quiet relaxed place on the odd nights after a gig it's bursting at the seams. Some nights they have a DJ playing relaxed tunes and there's a very tiny beer garden down the stairs at the back.

La Tasca
A great place to grab some nice, reasonably priced food before going to see a movie at the Omni Centre. My boyfriend and I came here for a romantic meal just before I had my first baby and really enjoyed it. The decor is lovely and we ordered one of the pre-set tapas combos which was really good value and very tasty. Service was ok, not overly friendly - that'd be my only criticism. Of course it is a chain and so I'm sure there are independent restaurants that'd be an amazing experience but for a chain the quality of the food was great.
