Massala is a take away only restaurant, no sit downs here!
I've never been disappointed by food from here, their speciality is (obviously!!!) is Massala - chicken is cooked in their traditional cylindrical oven on huge skewers, there is a choice of about 5 different masala sauces - cherry is lovely if you've got a sweet tooth! Naans are also made in the oven.
The rest of the menu is varied with most indian staples available. If there is a group of you, the set menu deals are out of this world - five people will dine comfortably on the set meal for 4!
The thing that sets Massala apart is the open kitchen, this means you can watch the whole meal cooked in front of you - this is how I know so much about the oven, it's really worth a try - reasonable, tasty and quick food.

I am another non fan of KFC in Caernarfon, the service is abysmal!
I am a fan of KFC, I can't resist the "blend of herbs" etc, but am gutted that the closest restaurant near me always disappoints. There is always, always a queue here... due to the ineptitude of the staff, they are constantly surly and slow, a long line of people will do nothing to rouse these people!
The restaurant is always missing something, be it sides, wings, even chicken! The last pepsi I had there was completely devoid of gas... Keep clear unless you are really desperate for your chicken fix!

Uffar o le - A great place!
Tafarn Y Fic is a great community pub, which has recently been upgraded and extended to offer food. There are two sides, one with pool with lcd tv and big screen, the main side has a real fire, and plenty of seating - blending modern and traditional.
Food is a relatively new thing here, but the quality is outstanding, from the cheap curry and pint night (serve yourself - guaranteed to fill you!), to the carvery on Sunday which has had locals raving of late - the menu is limited, but of great quality.
The pub is host to many community events, and sponsors local teams - there is always a spread laid on for an event. The staff are friendly, welcoming, and there is always something going on.

Not the best in the area
Since having won the award for best Indian Restaurant in Wales a couple of years ago, standards definately dropped. I have eaten takeaways from here on several occasions, and have been disappointed on more than one occasion. There is nothing on the menu that sets Sopna apart from it's competitors. The last time I ordered from here I was told to fetch my food in an hour, I was left standing for an additional hour in the restaurant - this is not acceptable IMHO! There are several better restaurants within 15 mins drive from here.

A great little pub and restaurant
The Black Boy is a pub with a huge amount of history, it was originally built in the 1500s. It's within walking distance from both the castle and the new developments in Caernarfon's dock. It's always comfortably busy at lunchtimes with a great varied menu with plenty of local seafood, and all the usual pub favourites such as curries, lasagne etc, all of which taste home made. I can heartily recommend the fish, chips and minted peas which is real comfort food for a winter's day, but light enough for a summer lunch. One thing that I love is that they have FRESH chips, which sets the pub apart from most of it's Caernarfon competitors. You can have a bar meal, or dine in the restaurant, which has a slightly more gastro menu. The beer is excellent, and all staff speak Welsh.
It's somewhere I always visit when I'm in Caernarfon, for the food, the beer and the craic!
