Definitely worth a trip to the country
I've had 3 very good meals at Jaffs in the last few months. It's a little light on vegetarian options on the menu, but the chef will basically cook anything you like if they have the ingredients, and made a fantastic one-off dish for my ultra-strict veggie pal who cleared her plate ... unheard of! For the meat eaters, I'm reliably informed that the lamb is 'best ever tasted'. Personally I like fish and veggies, and the leek risotto (sans bacon) was so scrumptioius I had it twice. The next time, I had the lentil bake, which was also a big hit. Desserts - all totally delectable, and that's from someone who can usually resist British desserts. Another upside is that on Thursday nights, the local Scottish folk session takes place from about 9 pm ... lots of wonderful traditional, dance-tempo tunes from accordions, fiddles, keyboards etc. Downsides? The side order of 'seasonal veg' consisted of imported petit pois and other mainly non-seasonal veg, and were a little over-cooked. Why not get in touch with your local veg growers at Vital Veg just around the corner and fix this common glitch! One more comment - It's not particularly pleasant to have to walk past the smokers hut outside to get into the restaurant, and a bit of outdoor landscaping could make all the difference. But will i go back? You bet I will!
