whilst meeting with one of my clients we broke for lunch downstairs at the new bar. 'only does burgers' was the shout, so i wasn't expecting too much if im honest, but what i got i was not expecting. Very cool and relaxed (think Lounge bar, with second hand retro furniture) with loads of mini booths (nice touch!) and a list of about 30 different burgers. these included lamb, chicken & veggie burgers so there really was something for everyone. as there 23 of us, the service was remarkably good & quick (handy when you're hungry). GU (grand union, or however else it is marketed) would have got 5 stars from me but for the fact that there were no fries provided with the burger, and i think 2.95 is excessive anywhere for a portion of chips, let alone a coffee cup sized bowl. i will definately go back.

yes it was in 'When Harry met Sally' for THAT scene. And by god, it doesn't half trade on that fact now. Rude, surly waiting staff are the low light of this drab eaterie, with low rent food at high rise prices.
Stick your head through the door (to say you've been there) if you want, then get upto Midtown to carnegie's for proper Deli Sandwiches

....then you will be very happy. Midtown/Central Park location - just down the same street as Carneby Hall, if you are trying to get as many places 'done' as possible - BD is always, always busy. Nice authentic meal, plenty of good people watching to be done, good feisty Ny attitude from the staff = a worthy stop for nosh, providing you are ok with hustle & bustle.

a proper NY neighbourhood bar, that knows exatly how a buy back system should work and no idea when to close its doors.

i would consider this bar to be my onoe and only true 'local' in the whole world! i've lost track of the times i have staggered in at gone 4 in the morning, and seen daylight by the time i have left! Great bar, a true NY gem

OH MY GOD!! the absolute first bar on any NY bar crawl has to be bar 89.

Swanky modern designed building (ie lots of metal & glass) that is surprisingly romantic as night falls.
Lads, don't let this put you off; lots and lots of groups of girlies all swilling Cocktails like they are going out of fashion. And for good reason too - try the Godiva Martini and you will see why.

If you are struggling for things to talk about, a quick trip to the toilet and the conversation will flow!!!

Next time you go into Lounge Bars in London, you will see a pale imitation of Meet. Loads of leather sofa's, great cocktails and cool music.

Utterly unpretentious - amazing considering it is right in the middle of the achingly trendy Meatpacking (ooh er missus) District.

If you want to do the whole Sex in the City thing, - you want the best Cosmo's.
Eugenes wipes the floor with Tao and all the other pretentious NY bars for Cosmo's at least.
Make sure you have the full address, as its a bitch of a place to find.

If you want a more 'earthy' experience, try MULLENS around the corner on 7th Avenue.

used to be the best chinese restaurant in a 20 mile radius - pricey, but always great food.

been a couple of times recently and the food has become greasy & bland, whilst still being pricey.

Its a shame because the staff are lovely, buts its no longer the 1st option for dining out for me, and has lost a star to now be a 3 star restaurant.
