I had a wonderful anniversary dinner here. We started at Kettners for some bubbly and then came here. They don't take reservations, but we ordered a bottle of wine and enjoyed the buzzy atmosphere. The fruits de mer was excellent - really wonderful fresh seafood - the the place itself is really good fun. For great seafood in a lively central location - I definately recommend Randall & Aubin. Not cheap, but worth it.

Excellent Thai!
This little BYO cafe is truly cheap and cheerful. The setting might not be much (plastic tables, mismatched glasses) and the service doesn't always come with a smile, but the food is some of the best Thai I've had in London. I used to live around the corner and would go there about once a week with my flatmate. We'd bring a bottle of wine, tuck in to pad thai, basil prawns, yam salad, chicken satay, and walk away stuffed having only spent around £20 between us.

I haven't eaten in the restaurant, but love going to the Oxo Tower for a cocktail before or after a slighly more affordable dinner elsewhere. Grab a drink and enjoy the view!

The Firestation is very convenient if you find yourself needing a drink near Waterloo, but as a result it's often very crowded and noisy. There's some outdoor seating, which can seem like a nice idea in the summer, but we found ourselves next to a loading bay for Waterloo Station - not very relaxing. That said, I recently ate there with a friend in the restaurant area and the food was really nice - lovely monkfish wrapped in parma ham. However, if you want really great food around Waterloo, head to the Anchor and Hope on the Cut!

Brindisa tapas are simply delicious. This place is fabulous - I've been there numerous times and will gladly continue to go back. They don't take reservations so you can have a fair wait, but order some of the great big green olives and a bottle of rose, and the wait is a pleasure. The menu is quite extensive but I've loved everthing I've tried.

Real Mexican
For real Mexican food (not greasy TexMex) Wahaca is fabulous. You can't make a reservation and the queue is often quite long, but it's worth it. Everything is made fresh daily and with a tapas style approach you can try loads of different flavours. The margaritas are great too!
