Real Value and Great Taste
This is a real treat.
First of all it's themed - based on Bollywood movies. There are film posters on the walls and there's a huge screen playing songs from films. It's not over the top but it's nice and makes dining there feel like an evening out.
Secondly, the service is great. People are very friendly
But most importantly, the food is wonderful.
The salads are great. The sauces for poppadums are lovely.
The pakora are all very nice, but I love the prawn ones most of all.
There's a great range of main courses. At least three are vegetarian. Some are fairly spicy and some are mild, but they are all clearly labeled.
The garlic mushrooms are wonderful. Shila Shetty coconut korma is also great. The lamb dish is very tender.
I would be happy to eat any of the dishes as a single main course but it's lovely to be able to have small amounts of a few different things.
The desserts are good. They are in a fridge with a glass door so they don't have flies buzzing around them. There is Indian rice pudding, cake and a Mr Whippy-style ice cream machine.

Does what it says on the tin
You get what you would expect from this place - it serves pancakes and syrup, pancakes and bacon, pancakes and curry, pancakes and chilli, pancakes and sausage, and other variations on this theme.
Which is great if you like pancakes.
I've been going to the Pancake Place since childhood. They used to be all over Scotland, didn't they?
I have many fond memories of pouring loads of syrup over stacks of fluffy pancakes. Of course, this was before GI diets, Atkins etc, and we all had tooth decay anyway from drinking nothing but Ribena.
They haven't changed too much, but they do offer some healthier options. The prawn cocktail salad comes with huge amounts of prawns, which is nice when you're used to skimpy portions.
They also offer baked potatoes, sandwiches and toasties.
The prices are reasonable.
It's a great place to take children, as the kids menu has 'piggies in a blanket' which is sausages wrapped in ...
pancakes, obviously.
Which they all seem to love.
It's also a way of serving them pancakes without covering them in something sweet.

Wide range, Friendly Staff
I love coming here as the service is great and there is a wide range of food.
My favourites are the duck with plum sauce, all seafood dishes and the mushroom and ginger.
The menu changes from week to week so it doesn't get boring.
There is a small salad bar so there are plenty of fresh options, and also fresh melon.
They also do one of my all-time favourite dishes - Peking duck with pancakes.
There are no sloppy nearly empty dishes languishing - food is always fresh and well-presented.
Once, when they had stopped doing a dish I liked, they made it specially for me.
They serve tap water which is good for a buffet as some refuse.
The desserts are great too. I love the banana fritters but they also have ice cream and cakes.
It's well worth a visit if you're looking for a cheap well-prepared meal.
