Step back in time
When we stumbled into this little club, we didn't know what to expect. A group of us in our late twenties had an absolutely fantastic night dancing to all those songs you though you'd never hear again from the eighties. I think the DJ was fed up with the number of requests we out in as we remembered more and more old songs. My personal favourites of the night were the a team theme song and we built this city. Drinks were reasonably priced however the bar gets very crowded as the night goes on. Excellent little club if eighties music is your thing!

The Last Post is located very near the train station in Southend. As it is a Wetherspoons pub, the prices are very cheap and therefore the pub is always busy particularly on weekends where a lot of people go to have a few drinks prior to moving onto trendier bars or clubs. The only thing I don't like is that there is no music playing in the background. Food is served here and is also very reasonable - doesn't always taste the best though. Ideal location if you're popping in for a quick one after work before jumping on the train to go home (just remember to get on the last train!.

Chillies is located in the Festival Leisure Park in Basildon along with several other resturants / bars. It is a grill serving burgers, steaks, tex mex etc. It also has a number of healthy items on the menu under the 'Guiltless grill' section which are very tasty for those trying to cut down. In saying that you will probably be very tempted with the range of the desserts - a number of which are for two to share (more like four to share the size of some of them!) They have a bar area which serves delicious cocktails - maragaritas are very nice as are mojitos. I think you also get free top up on your soft drinks with your meal if I remember correctly.

This Chinese buffet restaurant is located in the Festival Leisure Park in Basildon. There is a wide selection of food available and you can fill your plate as many times as you like! They also have a teppanyaki kitchen where you can pick what you fancy and watch the chefs cook what you have chosen right in front of you which is really exciting to watch. The service is really quick and the staff are always very polite. I would recommend this resturant to anyone who loves Chinese food or to those wishing to try Chinese food to find out the type of flavours they like.

This Indian buffet is quite a recent addition to the Festival Leisure Park in Basildon. It is very reasonably priced and the service is really good. The number of dishes that they have available to try is way more than the number of times you could fill your plate before you burst. This is a great way to try different dishes without paying out for a full meal to find you don't enjoy it. The food is always fresh, warm and is regularly topped up or replaced so the full selection is always available. It is open lunchtime and evenings and is ideal before or after a cinema visit as it is located in the same building.

Great food
Guidi's used to be a very small restaurant however over the years due to increasing popularity the owners have extended towards the rear and have recently added on a conservatory area. There is a restaurant and small bar where you can have a drink whilst waiting on your table. This restaurant is a little pricey however when you taste the food you'll agree it's worth the money - they also do half pasta portions for those on a budge or who don't have a massive appetite. I don't usually drink red wine but the house red is very good and you can also buy bottles of Guidis salad dressing which make eating rabbit food a lot more enjoyable!

I was introduced to this place by a friend when I signed up to attend Bell College. After visiting the place once and tasting their ice cream - I was in love. They have so many different flavours - I think Turkish Delight has got to be my personal favourite! I don't really rate the cafe / restaurant and found that the few times that I've sat in and eaten that the length of time to bring your food is long considering the type of food they serve i.e. fish and chips. The waitresses can also be quite rude. Get a take away ice cream on a nice hot day and you're in heaven!

Handy location
This pizza hut is located in a retail park however is never so busy that you don't get a table which is great when you want to spend all your precious time shopping till you drop! The service is really quick and even quicker if you opt for the lunchtime buffet offer where you can each as much as you like for a set price - this also allows you to try out several different varieties of pizza helping you to decide why you can have next time you visit. The staff have always been pleasant when I have visited and encourage the youngsters to have fun with their ice cream factory.

Typical fast food place
If you're looking to romatically wine and dine your loved one then don't come to McDonalds in Coatbridge. The food is the same as any other McDonalds but it's the atmosphere that's 'special'. You have a wide variety of people such as the posers who drive round and round the car park looking for any 'talent', the litter louts who need an extra full time member of staff to clean up after them and the usual yob types who hang about particularly after the pubs shut who think it's incredibly funny to run through the drive through pretending they are a car!

Great guest house
My partner and I stayed at the Heatherlea Guest House in Keswick for 2 nights in June this year and found it to be the best guest house we have ever stayed in. The proprietors Helen and Bob were a lovely couple and couldn't do enough to help (maps of the local area, bus timetables etc). The rooms were decorated to a very high standard and were spotlessly clean. You had a wide choise at breakfast - cereals, fruit, yoghurt, toast, kippers, full English which was lovely fuelling up for a day long hike up Helvellyn! Would recommend this place to anyone looking to tour the Lake District.
