Small traditional pub near Covent Garden. Usually has real cider, sometimes has perry.(Currently New Forest cider).Often very busy down stairs but there's often room to sit upstairs. Great for sitting by the windows people watching, chatting and sharing a cold glass of cider.
Haven't tried the food - seems to be mostly sausages.

I like Chimes mostly for the cider. The bar area at the front is pleasant and they do good lunchtime bar snacks (the chowder is really good!).
The food is good if predictible. I usually have the partan pie (crab) starter - which isn't a pie at all but a sort of soupy pate and very good. The mains are mostly pies and that's fine if you like all that puff pastry. I try to have the fish. I agree the staff can be a bit odd, but not in a bad way.
Best avoided when very busy or you end up listening to other people's conversations.

Breton cider, Tom Oliver's 3 4 Perry, Ricard, an airy, charming interior, friendly bar staff, even the dog didn't bother me (and I can't stand dogs!) I didn't try the food but it looked good. We were there for the Bastile Day event so maybe that's not the best day to judge it as Trusted Places had drawn its own crowd to some extent. I want to go back on an ordinary evening and see what it's like then.
