planet india has now moved to Richmond Place (where Goa spice of life was) and the bigger venue has been a good move, its always busy
its all veggie or vegan, lovely indian food cooked by lovely indian people!
we had some starters that I'd never had before, including a salad with coriander dressing and a crunchy popcorn type thing, mm
the mains were excellent too, a great lentil ginger garlic dhal and an aubergine curry too = well worth trying out!

earth and stars is one of those pubs that's good for get togethers and leaving do's - there's a big room upstairs which can be hired out (although they need to clean the lentil display in the fireplace as it was crawling with creepy crawlies last time I looked, urgh)

that aside, its a great town centre pub, a good option to go to when you want to avoid west street pubs! They do offers with a pint and a burger for about £6 I think, which looks good (if you drink pints)

very easy going - lots of organic and local beers and wine, so the hangover's not too bad the next day!

Thai at the Pond
as other people have said, the pub downstairs in the Pond is nothing special, just a usual back street boozer and there are a lot nicer places to drink in the neighbourhood

But -the Thai food is great, a tucked away little restaurant with all the usual thai favourites, we always end up having the set menu with a plate of mixed starters including thai fish cakes and spring rolls, then for the mains a few choices of curry with different veg options, good friendly service, plus you can pop downstairs for drinks whenever you like

maybe not the most romantic of places but good for a group of friends, I'd say

the basketmakers is just a perfect pub, tucked away in the North Lane just waiting to welcome you in - voted best pub in brighton by those in the know!

its got a great range of beers, changing real ales and whiskey, plus all the usual drinks

The home cooking is brilliant, you have to try both the meat and the veggie burgers, cricket ball size stuffed into a bun, they are absolutely delicious

as well as burgers, they have sandwiches and light meals plus larger meals too

there are always a changing range of dishes of the day too on the boards in and outside of the pub, well worth checking out

we went here for a family birthday - mixed views really, the building and location is wonderful and felt very holiday-like and they had very tasty local wine on offer

The food all sounded amazing but some was maybe a bit misplaced- the vegetarian options relied heavily on savoury icecreams including broad bean ice cream and parmesan ice cream - one might have been good but two was too much i would say

The main with oxtail chunks was really tasty, 10/10 for that, but the fish options promised a bit more than they delivered

not too impressed with the pudding options, apart from the G&T sorbet which was top quality; otherwise the pannacotta was a little bitter, and the chocolate pudding too overwhelming

we went here at the weekend and had a lovely meal, a great bustling restaurant filled with holiday makers and local residents enjoying a good fresh italian meal

Had whitebait to start (not sure if they needed to be in breadcrumbs but good all the same) and the salad starters looked very good

Had a lovely pizza which was made with extra toppings at request, and friends had fresh pasta with very tasty toppings

the profiteroles were very rich and chocolatey - just a shame that they'd sold out of banoffee pie again

fantastic location opposite the old burnt down pier, over looking the sea, with lots of tables outdoors if you're lucky - plus lots of space indoors and a great collection of signed celeb photos decorating the hallway to the bathrooms

there's a great selection of fish on offer, including wonderful whitebait and mussels for that seafood starter fix, and lots of whole fish, lobster and the like for mains, but the fish and chips can't be beaten , particularly welcome on new year's day this year to clear the cobwebs

very welcoming staff and atmosphere, all in all a good place for a fish supper

My husband lived in Japan for 3 years so he's been keen to try Okinami for a long time and we finally got our chance last week = it was well worth the wait
The atmosphere is very relaxed and unstuffy with excellent staff and some cute lampshades listing all the kings and queens of britain in Japanese

we had a great selection of sushi to start and then had a table full of japanese style tapas and fusion food, including some scrummy ostrich yakatori, fresh gyoza, miso soup, rice with a pickled cherry on top, and king prawns in tempura that melts in the mouth, absolutely wonderful. They also offer a great veggie selection too by the looks of things, with a cocktail bar upstairs for extra drinking

all of this plus a jug of warm plum wine and a bottle of wine made for a very happy evening indeed

we went here on a Times offer and it was a real surprise, cute little restaurant tucked away in the corner of the Square, excellent staff and atmosphere and wonderful home cooked British food

we had roast chicken and a steak and both were fantastic, cooked perfectly and just the right size portion so you don't leave feeling so stuffed that you can't move

Great selection of wines and soft drinks too , definitely worth calling in for an early evening meal or a relaxing romantic dinner for two

la cantina
its a shame to read the poor review on here, I've really enjoyed the meals that I've had at La Cantina, its an easy place to pop in to at lunch time and grab a sandwich or some mexican style eggs, both with a small salad and some nachos.

I think that the lunch menu is about a fiver and it makes a great change from other more standard lunches that you can find around the place

they also have a drink that I've never seen anywhere else, a cinnamon/ milk type thing that is very moreish

and if all of the food wasn't enough , it is amazingly decorated inside, the toilets are very bright and Frida Kahlo-esque
