A great North London pub but then it already knows that!

A fabulous and changing menu that is cooked before your eyes in the sort of size kitchen you expect to find in a batchelor studio flat not in a thriving gastropub. The sunday roast beef is the best I've ever had. The wine and beers are a good mix of both popular and thoughtful.

There are plenty of higgledy piggledy sofas, tables and chairs and out the back a suprising boon of extra space, with oversized outdoor tables and chairs.

The BUT has to be the staff, perhaps I am unlucky not to be considered a local, but for us average joe customers you have to have the patience of a saint to get served. But, perhaps I would be that smug and offhand if I worked in one of London's best pubs?

Could this be the best view of Newcastle from a beer garden? Positioned on a hill that allows you unrivalled sunset views over the Tyne and her many bridges.

Low key is not a word easily associated with Newcastle bars but great local beers, friendly bar staff and witty loo grafitti add to the simple brilliance of this place - but sshh don't tell anyone!

What a transformation and a very welcome addition to Gosforth's pub options. A wide range of drinks - from cracking lagers to wines to fruit juices to coffees to teas. Blackboards announce a changing menu full of thoughtful tempting meal choices and the interior could almost be like your dream living room - if only you spent less time in pubs and more time kitting your home out with clever comfy sofas, bespoke lighting and trendy wallpaper! There are a lot of thoughtful and original touches to this pub and a lot of reasons to return!

Sooo wanted to love the pub after everything I had heard about it, however, the interior was firstly hard to spot through the haze of cigarette smoke, but liberal use of 80s velor, unchanging painted blackboards (offering tired food options) and nosiy gamblers seemed to clash against the care taken over the great range of beers. Maybe post the smoking ban I'll give it a second chance!
