Arguably one of the best curries I've had..especially when compared to other local curry houses (Cochin excepted). It delivers exactly what you are looking for from a high street curry house: the staff are attentive and friendly, the atmosphere is unassuming and relaxed, and the food really is very tasty and good value. I am vegetarian, and have tried most of the range available, all of which is very good, particularly the tarka dall as a side dish, and my partner has been more experimental even having some of the traditional dishes which were all very agreeable. 2 large beers, with 4 poppadums, 2 main courses 1 side dish and rice/nan ususally comes to around 30 - bargain!

Gertie Brownes is a gem..a little Irish pub which used to be awash with cigarette fumes from a generally older crowd..now they all have to stand outside - very bizarre! Very friendly homely place with staff who soon learn your name and know your drink. Plays all football matches including 3pm kick-off games as well as as much dog and horse racing as you can handle! Usual range of beers, spirits and wines, though a lot cheaper than your average north London pub (2.10 for a pint of Export) and with a Thai food menu which hits the spot after a few beers, this place is great! Oh and they often stay open until you can't drink any more.. (N.B the map seems to be wrong..it's on East Finchley High Street about 5-10 min walk from the tube)
