Fromagerie des Rousses
In October 2008 we went on a daytrip from Zurich to the Jura Mountains. We mainly spent the day in Les Rousses in France.

The Fromagerie des Rousses consists of a cheese dairy with a shop and a restaurant. They are specialised in all sorts of cheese dishes like raclette or fondue.

We had lunch here after our hike from La Cure in Switzerland to Les Rousses in the French part of the Jura Mountains.

They have an outdoor terrace facing the street, but as it was end of October we prefered to sit inside. The interior is kept basic and decorated with all kinds of souvenirs related to milk and cheese.

All raclette and fondue meals are for at least 2 people. After perusing the menu we decided for a raclette with 3 different cheeses. Among them was a blue mould cheese (bleu de Gex). The dish came with a plate of dried meat (charcuterie), a plate of cheese, a green salad and a few potatoes for each person. An electric raclette oven was provided at our table.

We really enjoyed our lunch here as it was interesting to taste the different cheeses with the meat and potatoes. To drink I had a bottle of light Montbeliarde beer (3,50 Euro).

The raclette was 16,50 Euro per person which seemed a reasonable price to us. Only we didn't get a proper bill as the till had allegedly ran out of paper.

DIRECTIONS:
The Fromagerie des Rousses is located about 200 m west of the St. Peter Church (Eglise Saint Pierre), right in the heart of Les Rousses.

Restaurant Vrelo
In September 2008 we travelled through Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia. On this trip, we went on a sidetrip to Blagaj from Mostar.

The city of Blagaj with the source of the Buna river is situated about 10 km southeast of Mostar. It seems to be very popular for eating out, as many large restaurants can be found here.

We chose Restaurant Vrelo for our dinner, due to its excellent location on the river bank. Numerous tables are located outside on types of artificial concrete islands enabling everybody to dine just by the water.

They serve a large variety of international as well as local Bosnian meals. Fish dishes, especially trout from the Buna river, are among the specialities.

I ordered a beefsteak (Biftek) with egg, french fries and vegetables, which was good. To drink I had a local beer: Sarajevsko pivo.

The beefsteak cost 16 KM and the beer was with only 2,50 KM surprisingly cheap. Our waiter was attentive and helpful. Payment was possible in both Convertible Mark (KM) and Euro. The latter was even calculated at a very fair rate.

DIRECTIONS:
The Restaurant Vrelo is located on the left bank of the Buna River. It is the last restaurant in the direction of the source of the river.

Ascinica Misal
In September 2008 we travelled through Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia. On this trip, Mostar was our home base for two nights.

Ascinica Misal is a small local restaurant for a quick meal. It has both tables inside and outside on the pedestrianised street.

We had dinner here on our first evening in Mostar. The menu concentrates on a selection of typcial Bosnian meals.

As we already had a filling meal that day at lunchtime, I only ordered a small portion of Cevapcici (Mala Porcija Cevapi) for dinner.

The Cevapcici came with chopped onions in a flatbread (somun) and were very yummy. The small portion cost 3 KM.

The waiter was very friendly and helpful. Ascinica Misal seems to be a good option, if you are looking for a quick local meal, which is not overpriced.

The restaurant Ascinica Misal is situated on the east side of the river Neretva, just between the Old Bridge and the Koski-Mehmed Pasha Mosque.

Pizzeria ABC
In September 2008 we travelled through Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia. On this trip, Mostar was our second stop and our home base for two nights.

After our arrival in Mostar in the late morning we were quite hungry. As we had already eaten many Bosnian dishes in Sarajevo, we felt it was about time for a Pizza.

On the way from our hostel to the old town we passed through the pedestrianised Brace Feija Street which seems to be one of the main shopping streets in Mostar. There we spotted the Pizzeria ABC which looked inviting to us.

The restaurant is located on the first floor of the building and has a small outdoor terrace at street level. Although it was hot outside we took a seat inside at the window from where we had an excellent view of the street. The restaurant is air conditioned and nicely decorated.

The menu offers a wide range of pizzas as well as other Italian dishes. I opted for a Pizza Mozarella and a natural lemonade. Everything was very tasty and with 8 KM for the pizza and 2,5 KM for the lemonade reasonably priced.

Due to its location slightly outside of Mostar's old town, the Pizzeria ABC seemed to be frequented by quite a few locals.

The Pizzeria ABC can be found in the pedestrianised Brace Feija Street, about 400 m north of Mostar's old town.

Santa Lucia
Santa Lucia is a Swiss restaurant chain, which offers Italian cuisine. It was founded in the mid 1960's and belongs to the Swiss Bindella group of restaurants.

In December 2007 we visited the Santa Lucia restaurant in the Marktgasse 21. It seems to be frequented by locals and due to its central location also by many tourists.

The large wooden interior is divided into a smoker and a non-smoker section; the latter one can be found at the end of the room. The tables are located very close to each other, which makes people watching easy, but is probably not recommended for a romantic dinner.

The menu offers a wide variety of pizzas as well as homemade pasta, fish and meat dishes. I chose a Pizza Santa Lucia which was covered with ham, mushrooms and paprika. To drink I had two Calanda shandies, which in Switzerland are often called "Panache".

The pizza was very delicious and with 21 CHF reasonably priced.

DIRECTIONS:
Zurich is home to at least two Santa Lucia restaurants. We visited the one at Marktgasse 21. It can be found right in the heart of Zurich's old town in the pedestrianised part of the Niederdorf area on the right side of the river Limmat.

Caffe bar Dolce Vita
In September 2008 we travelled through the southern part of Croatia. On this trip we spent three days on the island of Brac, where we explored Bol and Supetar.

After a 70 minutes bus ride from Bol to Supetar we wanted to take a drink in a local cafe and enjoy the view of the quaint town. The harbour with its Austrian style buildings and the many cafes with outdoor terraces looked like a perfect place.

We sat down in a place called "Dolce Vita" and sampled the list of beverages which offered a large variety of drinks from soft drinks to cocktails.

As on this trip I had already drunk quite a few beers and as it was still before noon, I opted for a Cedevita drink. Cedevita is a refreshing Croatian instant vitamin drink. At only 10 Kuna it was relatively cheap.

DIRECTIONS:
The Caffe bar Dolce Vita is located right in the heart of the harbour area, just in the middle of the eastern side of promenade.

St. James Irish Tavern
In August 2007 we explored the Canton of Valais in Switzerland. We stayed three days in Sion which is the capital city of the Canton of Valais.

We visited the St. James Irish Tavern on a Wednesday evening just around midnight for a last few drinks with a local friend. They have several Irish, Swiss and international beers on offer, some of them on tap.

As in most foreign Irish Pubs the Irish beers are more expensive than the local beers.

The interior consists of a large curved bar and some wooden tables. They even have a discotheque downstairs.

Don Carlos
In August 2007 we explored the Canton of Valais in Switzerland. We stayed three days in Sion which is the capital city of the Canton of Valais.

On our second day in Sion we visited the restaurant Don Carlos for a late lunch. As it was a sunny day we sat outside on the pedestrianised street at a small table with comfy chairs. It was just the perfect place for a lazy lunch break with some people watching.

The menu offers a good variety of meat, pasta and pizza dishes as well as some seasonal specialities.

I opted for a pizza Santa Lucia, which was covered with tomato, mozzarella, ham and oregano. Pizzas come in two sizes. My small version was tasty and cost only 12 CHF. To drink I chose a grapefruit lemonade.

DIRECTIONS:
The restaurant Don Carlos is located just inbetween the Place de la Planta and the Place du Midi in the pedestrianised heart of Sion's city centre.

Trattoria de Valère
In August 2007 we explored the Canton of Valais in Switzerland. We stayed three days in Sion which is the capital city of the Canton of Valais.

As the weather was quite nice on our first evening in Sion we decided to have dinner somewhere on an outdoor terrace. Many places were already occupied, but by chance we found a free table on the pedestrianised street at Trattoria de Valère.

They are obviously specialised in Italian cuisine, nevertheless typical local Swiss meals are available as well. I decided for a beef steak with chips which was excellent and with 26 Swiss Francs reasonably priced. A tasty fresh salad was included in the price as well.

To drink I opted for a big shandy (5,00 CHF), which came with the local beer "Biere Valaisanne". It was just the drink I needed on a lovely summer evening.

DIRECTIONS:
The Trattoria de Valère can be found in the pedestrianised part of the Rue Du Rhone, about 5 minutes on foot east of the Place de la Planta.

Pizza Celentano
In May 2008 I came to Lviv for the second time. This time we stayed three nights.

Pizza Celentano is a popular Ukrainian Pizza chain, which can be found in many cities all over the country. Lviv is home to at least 7 Celentano restaurants. We once visited their branch near the main train station for lunch.

The menu offers pizza, pasta, crepes, salads, soups and desserts. You can create your own pizza or crepes by chosing your favourite toppings.

You directly order and pay at the counter where you get a big metal number which you put on your table. Your meal will then be freshly produced and brought to your table.

I had a Pizza Salami (13,70 UAH) and an ice tea (4 UAH) to drink. Taking into account that Pizza Celentano is a sort of Fast Food restaurant, their pizzas are really excllent and the service is friendly.

Apart from that the restaurants are clean and always decorated in an interesting way.

DIRECTIONS:
The branch of Pizza Celentano which we visited is located just southeast of the train station at the corner of Gorodska and Chernivetska street.
