Father Ted's
Hoo wee! This place is wild. Stuck on the high street, come in here on a weekend night and you'll be bombarded with life. From cheeky chappies to rude boys, yuppies to old drunkards, Father Ted's has room for all and entertains it's patrons with loud music, cheap drinks and fun times. The beer's always cold and tasty, the staff always firm and friendly. There's no other place like it in Stoke Newington. Admittedly, the name is a bit naff. It should be called 'Slaggy Island' instead of Father Ted's. This unpredictable, anything-goes haunt is the type of place where you can truly lose yourself. Well worth a visit.

The Prince
Hmm. This place looks good enough, but it is not. Not really. I mean, they spent a lot on the decor but patrons are expected to pay a lot for their food a drink -this, I feel, is unacceptable for a back street boozer. Thanks to the throughly pompous, dark faux-sexy decor The Prince has a distincly staid and uptight atmosphere. Many treat it's back street location as a means to call it a hidden gem, but this treasure trove is no rewarding, seek it out and you'll see for yourself that a big fat X makes the spot. Do yourself a favour, visit one of the very many other better pubs in the area and don't indulge these clowns. Well worth avoiding.

The Bagel House
Forget Brick Lane, this is London's best bagel shop. It's open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and never fails to deliver beautiful, freshly cooked food. They bake in the premises and the smell is enough to make you come into the shop. Plus, the food is very cheap. A fresh salmon bagel will only set you back £1.20, and portions are generous. Other delights include cockle-warming tea and scrumptious cold pizza -no really, they are wonderful. This place is loved by the community and it's easy to see why. Forget chicken and or chips, go here if you want very fast, very tasty, very cheap, very quality food. Well worth a visit.

Dixy Chicken
KFC, your days are done. This, my friends, is THE perfect fried chicken shop. It's clean, it's fast and it's friendly. Best of all, it's cheap. Dixy's Chicken as long been a favourite food place after a boozy night out and of late it has earned a much more vauled place in the community for the quality and value of its food. And beacuse this place is just so hugely popular with everyone, all the food is much fresher than your average chicken shop -food is constantly being cooked and it doesn't sit under the hot lights for very long. If you ever come to Stoke Newington make sure this is the place you choose to eat at. Well worth a visit.

The Birdcage
Coodle Doodle Doo! The Birdcage is a mega cool boozer on the wrong side of the Stoke Newington tracks. Just past the railway station, The Birdcage offers a lively, crowded, sexy time out. Loud and sumptious decoration will soothe you as you drink and be merry. Expect to see a lot of famous faces and this is sometimes inhabited by popstars such as Cast, Embrace and members of Coldplay. It's gay-friendly atmosphere also makes this place wilder than its competition. All in all, a brilliant local place to have a raccous night out. Go there now! It's well worth a visit.

Yummy Yums
Oh my god. This place is my favourite restaurant ever. First off, it's location. It's in a coverted mansion off the high street. There's a large courtyard with pagodas and fountains and you can choose to eat outside if you wish. I recommend that you do because a warm evening out there will make you giddy with joy. The food is solid Thai cusine. No radical dishes, just traditional Thai made to perfection. The prices aren't too expensive either, making this place really good value. The staff are helpful and keen and because you'll leave this place feeling very satisfied, Yum Yum's is well worth a visit.

The Lion
This is a cracking little boozer. The bar staff are the prettiest and friendliest all around, and can often be found dancing on the semi-circular bar after last orders. The drink selection is superb and every beer is chilled to perfection. Whether you’re seated at a stool on the bar, or at tables or on the mega comfy sofas, you are sure to have a very comfortable time. The beer garden is small and the brilliant music quiz they once had is no gone but don’t you worry, there are lots of other things that make The Lion well worth a visit.

Ryan's Bar
Ryan’s Bar is one of Stoke Newington’s hidden gems. But if you can find it at the far end of Church Street, you’ll get some of the best food and drink around. They have lots of quality beers on tap, such as Hoegaarden and Oranjeboom. And they serve beautiful Thai cusine –their Pad Thai is superb. Most of all, Ryan’s Bar has a nice big long beer garden that is a pleasure to sit, drink and talk in. Until recently the toilets were poor but now that they have fixed those to a great standard, Ryan’s Bar is well worth a visit.

Booth's
Booth’s is a funny old place. It’s a cool basement bar, but also a family pizzeria. The food is very good value for money, it’s stone baked pizzas are the best in all Stoke Newington. As for its bar persona, it actually works very well. There’s a modest sized beer garden out front from which you can watch all the strange folk wander from boutique to boutique on trendy Church Street. The decoration in Booth’s is a bit dated, almost utilitarian, but this doesn’t detract much from the Booth’s experience and probably makes the place that little bit more relaxed. Well worth a visit.

Bodrum is best
Cafe Bodrum is the truly cool understated neighbour to Cafe Z Bar. Both places serve a beautiful mix of Turkish and English food, but only Cafe Bodrum has a truly relaxed atmosphere and definite lack of pretention. It’s tasteful decor and pleasant music makes this place a getaway from the more demanding venues in Stoke Newington. The food is always well cooked and is very good value for money. The staff are about as nice and helpful as your could possibly wish for and should be tipped. If you would like low-key place to eat good, cheap good then this place is definitely well worth a visit.
