I love the Bobbin!!! I used to go a lot when I was a student (it's right across the road from the uni and it's a great place to hide when you can't be bothered with lectures). It's a traditonal style pub, whic does excellent food - all the standard pub grub like burgers and amazing breakfasts. It also has several large screen Tellys so it's a great place for watching the match and you can get a game of pool or have a pint outside in the sunshine. The drinks pretty cheap if you get a membership card (this works in Triple Kirks in town as well) and there’s a big range of drinks and shooters. The Bobbin is well staffed, so doesn’t take too long to get served and they all tend to be cheery and amenable.

Lovely food but not great service
I’ve had a few meals here and while the food is lovely and not to expensive, the service is pretty slow and there were some language barrier problems on one or two occasions. The all you can eat for £10 deal on a Thursday is great, but you do need to watch you get given the right menu – I’ve heard of a few folk ordering from the wrong menu and being hit with huge bills because the waitress didn’t point the mistake out. The restaurant is very traditionally decorated and is warm and welcoming – you wouldn’t think you were right on Union Street. It’s location also makes it perfect for somewhere to go for a meal before a night on the town.

Lovely
I’ve only eaten here a couple of times but it’s been lovely both times. The restaurant is decorated in a very comfortable way, and the layout allows a fair bit of privacy, so it’s quite good for business meetings and the like. The food is served on hotplates and separate to the rice and other side dishes, but is presented well and doesn’t take too long to arrive. Everything is cooked well, and all tastes very fresh and like the ingredients are the best. I haven’t had desserts in Yu so I can’t comment on them, but they looked tasty enough when others had one. If you like Eastern food then yu is worth a try.

Cheap and Cheerful
This Jimmy Chung’s (on the beach esplanade) is the best of the four in Aberdeen. It’s a bit smaller then the Union Street one, so has a smaller selection of food but what there is tends to be pretty good. It’s usually busy as well, which means the buffet is refilled regularly making it fresher. The Teriyaki Bar is nice as well – the foods cooked right in front of you so you know it’s fresh! The service isn’t up to much – they tend to whip your plates away far too quickly and clear the tables even if someone’s still eating but for what you pay, you can’t really expect silver service I suppose. I wouldn’t recommend Jimmy Chung’s for a romantic dinner or sophisticated evening out but it’s great for families and a big group.

Slain’s is one of my favorite places for going out drinking in Aberdeen, although the food can be a bit of a hit or a miss. The pub’s been built in an old church and you could be mistaken for thinking you’re in Frankenstein’s castle!! The whole place is decked out in Gargoyle Statues and huge gothic style seats with the toilets hidden behind bookcase (a bit of a novelty but not much fun when you’re dying for the loo and can’t find the right one). There are two bars, both well stocked with a good range of drinks and there’s an elaborate cocktail and shooter menu to choose from. I’ve eaten in Slain’s quite a few times and on the whole it’s been pretty good food, although there’s been once or twice when I wasn’t overly impressed. I’d definitely recommend Slain’s, especially at the weekends!!

Good for a Laugh
Espionage’s is a great place to go if you’re looking for a good laugh and don’t take your music too seriously. It’s free entry which is always a bonus and it’s that big that you never have to wait too long to get served at one of the bars. It’s aimed at students mostly so the drink tends to be quite cheap and there are offers and promos on a lot of the time. It attracts such a range of people that you’re pretty much guaranteed to find someone to have a laugh with and it’s easy enough to escape from less desirables  The music’s good in a cheesy sing-a-long kind of way, and I’d recommend Espionage as the sort of place to finish up and evening.

Really Worth a Visit
I'd advise you to book well in advance as Rustico's usually gets booked up pretty quick - always a good sign!! The restaurants beautifully laid out and very comfortable, and you always get a warm welcome. The menu is always so difficult to choose from as it all sounds excellent and you really are spoilt for choice. The actual food is lovely and definitely worth every penny – it’s all cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. The staff are always very friendly and accommodating and although the restaurant gets very busy at weekends it’s perfectly suited to romantic evenings out, dinner with friends or a family meal. It’s worth a visit for lunch as well, not as busy as in the evenings, but just as good.

Quite Nice
I’ve eaten in La Lombarda several times and the quality and service have been pretty good every time. The service has been slow at times, but I’ve only ever eaten there on weekend nights, so I couldn’t say what it’s like on quietr nights. The food is generally pretty good, although some of the sauces are a tad bland and needed plenty of salt and pepper. I’ve always found the staff to be very friendly and eager to please, which I think makes up some for the slow service, and they tend to be quite knowledgeable about ingredients and the wine list. I would recommend La Lombarda for a romantic evening out or a dinner with friends but it’s not particularly child friendly

Pretty Good
The Cliff’s a traditional looking hotel, with individually furnished and decorated rooms and comfortable and homely public areas. I stay here on a fairly regular basis and have never had any proper problems, just the odd bit of noise. The rooms tend to be a cosy and warm, if a little shabby at times, but all the ones I‘ve stayed in have had comfy beds, nice bathrooms and working TVs! There’s a bar serving low key bar meals, which are nice enough and a smarter restaurant, which can be a bit of a hit or a miss. I’ve had some lovely meals in there, but also had some not so wonderful meals. Overall, a nice place to stay but no Ritz.

OK for a not too serious night out.....
Liquid's one of the larger clubs in Aberdeen city centre, with 2 floors each playing different types of music. The ground floor is mostly rnb earlier on and dance towards the end of the evening, while upstairs is lots of cheesy pop and always good for a sing along when you've had a few :) I used to go to Liquid a lot back when I was a student, as it's mostly a younger crowd who go, and they have regular perks for students, like cheaper entry and things like foam party's during fresher's week. Liquid's definatly the place to go if your having a girly night out and fancy something a bit daft and cheesy, but if it's a more grown up atmosphere you're looking for, it's best avoided.
