Howard's ScamIt seems that Howard's Bass Place in Newcastle has closed over the Christmas period with no information on future contact details. I had left one of my bass guitars that they were to sell on my behalf, I have heard nothing from them.

The "classy" fish & chip shop in Gilesgate. This is a lovely take out with good food. The decor is very nice with an aquarium built into one wall (a little twisted in my opinion but there you go!).

Lovely Local PubThis has to be my favorite pub in Durham. They always have a selection of at least 5 local ales on and more types of whiskey than you could shake Scotland at. This little hotel come pub always gets top reviews both as a hotel and as a pub and with good reason, a friendly local pub this is everything that you expect to find in a place like Durham. Even the students that go there are well behaved and friendly. This is a must try.

United in loving The Union RoomsI have yet to meet anyone who doesn't like The Union Rooms, Wetherspoons run, this is a nicely converted building with a chilled atmosphere that makes you happy to spend a whole afternoon there.
It comes with the standard Wetherspoon food which is always tasty and filling, and also the drink selection is splendid.
If you are in Newcastle and looking for somewhere to stop for a quick drink, a long drink, a meal or an evening out, this is the place to go.

I'd forgotten about this place until I was browsing the site. This little restaurant is a little forgettable all round really. I like my Japanese food, sushi, sashimi, bento, it is all good. This place does it all well, not really memorable for anything, it is just one of an increasing number of japanese restaurants in the capital.

If you are in Camden and looking for somewhere reasonable to eat then this is deffinately a good place to try, but don't make a trip for it.

Almost AuthenticThe Tokyo Diner tries very hard to give customers an authentic japanese experience with sliding doors, traditional artwork on the walls, minimalist seating (not on the floor, but benches), and also a polite note about tipping not being expected or wanted, with any money left on the table being donated to charity (The Japanese do not have a culture of tipping for service).
This is all very nice, however the food itself is not the best and within a 5 min walk there are at least 3 other japanese restaurants that are really excellent, Misato being my one of choice. Don't get me wrong, the food is very good and I'd happily eat there, but there is much better to be had for less money (even including a tip!).

Taro offers authentic Japanese food, not just the sushi you'd expect but a selection of cooked dishes including Bento Boxes and dishes with rice (-don dishes) that are particularly nice. They also serve some nice sake.
The restaurant is in a basement but seems very open and light and it has TVs showing the kitchens so you can 'spy' on the chefs as they prepare meals. Seating is very minimalist with a lot of softwoods used for benches, tables and flooring.
This place is deffinately worth a try.

Situated in the Canary Wharf complex this trendy sushi restaurant is the place to go if you are in that area. Dishes are served on a rotating belt and you just help yourself to what you want, keeping the plates so they can track how much you've eaten.
The food is some of the best sushi I have had in London and certainly outside of the West End. Their hot dishes are also very tasty. I'd highly recommend this to anyone.

This is a members only club that has a bar as well as other facilities including a dance hall that is rented out to members and non-members alike.
A little dingy, but reasonably priced.

This Indian is done up in the style of a transport cafe with simple decor and good food. Good food, that is reasonably priced. Mostly you tend to take stuff out, but there are a few seats if you want to eat in.

One of the many many Italian restaurants in Durham, this place offers a good Happy Hour deal and reasonable prices at peak times as well. The food is good although the portions are a little small.

The cafe inside the Student Union. This cafe offers the typical motorway service station selection of foods that the charge motorway service station prices for. It is redeemed however by doubling as a music / stand-up comedy venue in the evenings. I would particularly recommend the fortnightly Jazz Cafe.
