And because she knows her food and I trust her opinion, each time I visit, her words of disapproval echo in my ears and try to convince me that what I'm eating ain't so great. But it doesn't work. I can't help loving it. Perhaps her bar is set too high, and mine too low - but who cares, the heart wants what it wants.

I only wish I lived closer so I could go more often and order my favourite, bbq pork and spring roll bùn. So good and refreshing. My body thanks me every time.

Phone: 020 7930 1408
Definitely one of London's worst kept secrets, Gordon's is a gorgeous wine bar tucked away in a cellar in Embankment. It has a great wine selection, a very decent cheese selection, and other bites that will work well with a fine bottle. Service is very friendly, it's a difficult place to leave! Especially if you've managed to get one of those lovely tables by candlelight.

The only downside is that it get's so busy! It can be impossible to get in the door on a busy night, however, there's ample space outside to indulge in your tipple.

Ah, Gordon's, it's a London institution, and, dare I say it, you're not a proper Londoner if you haven't been there.

Phone: 020 7388 8399
Step out of Camden into Japan! Asakusa has the feel and downhome buzz of real Japanese Mom and Pop place. And the worn but thick carpet and the wooden pub beams on the ceiling add to the over all effect. The salads are excellent. The ingredients fresh. The pork with the Bulldog sauce dip was scrumptious. Crab soup with egg was a tasty, fishy starter. All the dishes I tried were excellent but what makes this place is the welcoming feel and sense of relaxed theatre. Prices are reasonable too - many of the Japanese clientele come after 8 - if you want a table book before then and you'll have no problem.
