Rating: 2.7

Location: 22 Neal Street, WC2H 9PS, London, United Kingdom

Phone: 020 7836 5649
Nicely located on the corner of busy Neal Street and Shelton Street, between the Seven Dials and Covent Garden tube station. This pub has no official outdoor space, but most punters seem to crowd onto the pavement. Although there is a small, square open space opposite, most drinkers just stand bang in the middle of pedestrianised Neal Street. From my own observations, this leads to annoyed and often hostile pedestrians, who simply can't weave their way through the bodies and pints. That's not clever, but wait till you go inside.

The interior of the pub is very standard and doesn't have much to commend itself for, apart from the nice, large, slightly bowed windows onto Neal Street. I don't know when this place was last refusbished, but it has always looked shabby, for as long as I have known it. No doubt it was a pub almost entirely frequented by the porters and warehousemen of the old Covent Garden fruit & veg market in the older days. they might have accepted the pub's standards, but in today's competitive environment I give this a wide berth.

The pub's exterior is still quite attractive - a nice arts & crafts facade that is visible from all the surrounding streets.

Its a bit out of the way, but i think that adds to its charm, well worth the walk, but dont have too many and fall in the thames on your way back. I took my inlaws here for a pub lunch and they loved it, so it appeals to all ages.

Just on the outskirts of the town center along greenwich high road, it seems to miss the tourist trade, not always a bad thing, this pub has blossomed into what i would call a nice little boozer,if you want to visit london and see how the locals enjoy a night out this is one of the places to go, a warm friendly atmosphere, good range of beers, and a nice quietish night out this is one of my recommendations, not a happening place so dont expect that.

Especially in the summer, when you have been at work all day, there really is nothing like meeting freinds here, sitting on the wall outside, looking across the Thames, enjoying a cold Gin & Tonic, or a delicious real ale.

The drinks are reasonably priced, and they have a great range of real ales, including some often hard to find in London. The food offering is pretty standard pub fare but is of good quality (their club sandwich is pretty darn tasty).

This isn't a pretensious riverside pub, it has a great mix of locals and tourists that make for an almost unique atmosphere. The view of the Thames is stunning, looking across to Canary Wharf and The O2 (the venue previously known as the Millenium Dome)and is an especially good place to watch the sun go down.

In the winter, sit in front of the fire or upstairs in the big bay window and watch he grey skys across the river.

It is a little out of the way, but a leisurely stroll along the river from Greenwich will bring you here in about 15 minutes.

My only gripe is that if you sit outside you are given plastic glasses - but I suspect this is a dictat from the local authority.

Phone: 020 8858 0786
Great spot, right near the ferry, the DLR and plently of parking if you don't mind paying a small fee for the underground carpark. However, this pub is over-run with chavs on the pull (i.e. left the burberry behind but gelled up the hair in the Astra outside). This leads to some quite extreme drunkeness - although this is fine in principle as I am often in that state myself, when boys from 'east greenwich' (woolwich) and basingstoke get extremely drunk they tend to fight - I saw three dust ups on the Friday evening I was there, great if that's your scene. The bar staff are really quite rude and it takes forever to get served, the drinks are quite expensive too. The women were hugely overmadeup or skanky - really I wouln't reccomend this unless you think Jodie Marsh is attractive, you have too much money and you want to get punched.

Phone: 020 7407 2495
Just a brilliant, brilliant place to go for a drink. It does get extremely busy, both inside and out so not really some where to go for a swift, cheeky Sussex half but if you've got the time (and patience) to wait to get served (not criticism of the service, just reflects how popular it is) then it is well worth it. One of my greatest pleasures is a wander through the market, maybe picking up something to eat on the way through, a pint of Harvey's Sussex best from the Porter and an hour or so spent outside, chatting in the sun, soaking in the sights, smells, and sounds of the market. London simply doesn't get any better than this.

Actually that's an understatement the place was heaving. Packed inside, and packed outside too. Lot's of people from the creative industries around the Southwark area, plus the usual crowd of professional who were celebrating their Friday liberation before going back in on Monday. Great location to end up after a few hours spent in Borough market, which deserves a review of its own.

Not much more to say on that one. Great atmosphere, great staff, great food. The inside makes you feel like you could be on board a ship, dark wood and candles make it very atmospheric. The garden out the back is a great place to relax in the summer and they sometimes have bbq's.

This pub is very busy and on one occasion we couldn't get in it was so packed, but I would recommend it to everyone.

It servers speciality beers (I haven't tried so please feel free to comment if you have!), street magik, and lots of smashing of glasses, they also serve food.

You'll find that City people drink here weeknights but especially on a Friday, and I would imagine tourist would visit in the day and on weekends.

But don't be put off this pub suits everyone.
