They were masters of vegetarian cuisine and a friend of mine will literally consider suicide as a result of their closure! I always found the husband and wife team to be a unique experience, I just hope (and pray) they set up somewhere close by and let us all know of their new venue! The food here was such good value for money ⬠if the owners read this, please please tell us if you reopen somewhere else!

Superb pub. Absolutely fascinating inside! Full of interesting and quirky items that can keep you amused for hours! ( Including an upside down christmas tree on the ceiling!),traditional pub games and some modern ones too. Don't be misled...this is a very old, traditional style pub which serves real beer and real food. Loads of room outside in beer garden which is lit and heated at night.
Full of character and love it!
Plenty of parking nearby and close to city centre as well.
Great for a fun night out or quiet drink for two... full of cosy corners :-)

So I looked on TP for local places to eat, and read the reviews that suggested it was quality food, nice atmosphere, not OTT.
I can't claim to be a real foodie - but even by my modest standards, the food was a bit lacklustre. Maybe it was the regular chef's night off - it was a weeknight (can't remember which).
The Americans at the next table who were there for a farewell dinner, were complaining a bit about it, too, according to my eavesdropping wife....
But the atmosphere was nice and dark and cosy and the company was 5 star, so we had a nice evening anyway.

Starting with the caff by the kebab shop and working up to Snow's, passing the Queen's Head on the way, depending on who was paying and how friendly we were feeling.

Sickeningly shallow, I know. Hey ho.

Anyway, Snow's was invariably the venue for happy supplier meetings, serving top quality, beautifully turned out food at very reasonable prices. You could go off-piste and ratchet the bill up if you wished, but the prix fixe menus never disappoint. The wine list works well for a lunchtime glass, and should you wish you can easily be in and out in reasonable time.

If you're in striking distance of Snow's and need a place to get lunch, even if you're with someone you'd like to impress a little, give them a call and they'll sort you out.

I've not been in the evening though, in a vague attempt to separate work from that other thing I do, so I can't comment on that end of things.

I was intrigued by this "Country pub in London", as it sounded like the perfect place for a relaxing Sunday lunch.

Well, last Sunday dawned sunny, so we were off to The Telegraph. We headed there early to ensure we got a seat out in the garden. We really loved the location - it is tucked away in the middle of Putney Heath and you really do feel like you are in the country. There was plenty of parking nearby, and you can also catch a bus there from Putney (Mon-Sat).

The front garden is filled with picnic tables, while the beautifully restored interior is filled with comfy leather lounges and mix-matched chairs and tables.

We nabbed the perfect table in the garden and I popped inside to order our drinks and lunch at the bar. The staff were very friendly though a little disorganised. We both opted for the Sunday Roast - me the beef and he the lamb. Our meals were delivered incredibly fast&.a little to fast as we barely had a chance to sip our pre-food beer. The quality of the food was fine, though there was way too much garlic on the potatoes.

Deciding it would be wrong not to try desserts, we ordered the Lemon Meringue and the Sticky Toffee Pudding. Both were disappointing - the Lemon Meringue wasn't tangy enough, and the Pudding was too dry and there was nowhere near enough sauce.

But we loved the setting and look of The Telegraph so will definitely return again. It is a great place to meet up with friends for a weekend lunch and is child and dog friendly too.

Over 2 levels there's quirky art nouveau prints on the walls and flat screens telling you what's on each night in cute montages interspersed with Charlie Chaplin skits.

As mentioned there's a French chef, hence the snails&. So& my first snails& were great! I'm sold, garlicky buttery, and with an attractive texture not unlike the best part of mussels, without the grittiness and beards. I've got some rather unflattering pixt's of my very first one but you wont be seeing them, I think grimacing is the adjective(or verb?) for what my poor face was doing.

I also had the goats cheese salad, loved the caramelised red onion, but it needed a bit more salad as the there was a lot of cheese. Further on my entrée tip (or as an indecisive little piggy) I ordered the fish soup as well, which wasn't really to my liking, brown, medium consistency with unidentifiable ground fish& but the pesto toasted fresh ciabata was beautiful. My darling lunch companion had what he described as the best battered fish he has ever tried, served as the traditional fish'n'cips with bright mushy peas and tartare sauce & A big call, it was good, fresh and thick cooked to perfection.

The room we ate in was children friendly with a big open fire, they all seemed very well behaved and happy children, playing quietly and giggling, occasionally counting with their parents out loud. The room had a number of sofas and armchairs mixed in with table's chairs and benches. The bar where you order the food was more bar-like (funnily enough) and upstairs seemed to be a more formal dining space again.

Lovely place, reasonable prices (compared with central) and smoke free, the garden must be stunning on sunny days and in summer, I can see my self sipping pimms there already, popping over to the clearing in the heath for a spot of social cricket.. what what?

Local enquiries revealed that apparently the people running the restaurant have given up as it is uneconomic to continue under the landlord's rent review. This is regrettably not our first experience of this scenario in London with a restaurant who has toiled for years to build a good reputation only to suffer an exhorbitant rent increase from the landlord thus forcing it out of business!

After 33 years! Absolutely dreadful. So disappointing.*

Beautiful indian vegetarian food in the heartlands of Willesden.

Sabras is the best vegetarian indian I have been to. Beautiful food that is delicately cooked and beautifully presented at fantastic prices. The food critic Andy Hayler highly rates them & I couldn't agree with him enough. We found Sabras through the Guardian Guide where it was given 10/10 for vegetarian food.

A husband and wife team have been running Sabras for 33 years. They cook Gujarati food, everything from dosas to currys. On arrival they will greet you with a plate of bhel poori on the house.

We have tried most things there, if it's your first time I would recommend the dosa, mixed starter plate and the special curry.

Try it! It's worth the trip. They also do takeaway (but not delivery) if you are in the area.

Andy Haylers blog - search Sabras for the review - http://www.andyhayler.com/food_blog.asp

We have had many medium rare roast beef Sunday lunches here and the best fresh haddock & chips & ham hock the other evening which proved that the same high culinary standards are maintained during weekdays. Parking only available in nearby municipal car park on main road (short walk). We really wish that this pub could be our local.
