Phone: 020 7645 3550
Gastranomic paradise. Go in the week, when the market is closed/quiet: the staff have time, and are more than happy, to advise you on cheeses you'll love. Just mention a few things you like and they'll find something you'd love to try - like this site in fact!

Thanks to Walid for jogging my memory, I meant to review this place a while ago but forgot. I went to the one in Neal's Yard (Covent Garden area) and found it kind of by chance as it's next door to Suburb Store cafe. It's one of those cool little independent 'old-timey' style shops that makes shopping such a pleasurable experience (so much better than supermarket dreariness, which is what Trusted Places is all about for me).

The smell , which is not cheesy as you would imagine, but very sterile (think hospital - I would imagine to drown out the cheesiness) is not pleasant. However, friendly & knowledgable staff who offer you titbits from monster cheeses lying all around the shop, as well as the mind-boggling selection of gourmet cheeses makes this a must-see. I tried 2 very different cheese (can't remember what) that both blew my head off as they were so flavoursome. Be warned though that your wallet may be traumatised if you purchase - it ain't cheap, but arr, it be good.

There's actually two Neil's Yard Dairy, one in Covent Garden and this one in Borough Market.

The first Neil's Yard Dairy opened on July 4th 1979 in Neal's Yard in Covent Garden. At the time, Neal's Yard Dairy was owned by Nicholas Saunders, who had already started a bakery and wholefoods warehouse in the yard and Monmouth Coffee Company on Monmouth Street.

So as you can see there is a passion in this business for quality food. Today I was waiting to pick up the TrustedPlaces t-shirt with Lisa (a top reviewer) when we passed by Neil's Yard and had a chat with Michael pictured here. Not only was he happy to pose for me but also Lisa and I had the pleasure to taste the Colston Basset Stilton cheese. This particular cheese is produced in Nottinghamshire by Richard Rowlett and Billy Kevan. It has this mellowy taste and it's quite rich and sweet. Quite recommend it.

So if you're in the Borough Market area and love cheese make sure you stop by Neil's Yard Dairy!
