The New Angel

Previously the Carved Angel, this place had a lot to live up to...unfortunately, it didn't.

Over priced food, oily pigeon, small sea bass, pretentious clientele.

Ok Ok, I am being quite harsh - the service was fine, the view lovely (request a seat by the window) and the wine very good. I just felt like there was something lacking.

I may have just ordered badly (and when I do this I get very upset) as my Mum and sister both had the lobster which was delicious (although rather small).

This is THE place everyone goes when they visit Dartmouth and I think that they rely on this rather than produce fantastic produce. I know I keep going on about portion sizes and maybe I have been spoiled as I grew up by the sea and had fresh fish practically every day, but it just really annoys me when you go to a restaurant on the coast and their fish is not top standard - there is just no excuse.

Ok, Rant over - the homemade olive bread is exceptional though :)

The decor/ location was interesting (graffiti and strange sunken seating areas with very high windows below pavement level).

I'll definitely be going back (although may perhaps have to save up for a while unless another business lunch crops up somethime soon...:)

Phone: 020 7494 2133
Like gastrosnob below - I also used to go here frequently (it's just round the corner from work). The portions are absolutely huge and I don't think I have ever finished one of their wraps.

The queue is alsways out of the door and they do not have enough space inside to swing a cat, let alone sit down. Never the less, their freshly squuezed orange juice is good, the prices are rock bottom and at least you won't have to buy dinner if you go here for lunch....

Saying that though, I normally come here after a long day at work to lounge of the soft sofas/ sit outside and soak up the sun/ people watch with a Mojito.

It's a great place to start off your evening if you are going out and about in Soho. On Friday we came here before dinner and I had THE BEST champagne cocktail with a passionfruit and apple/ zubrowka concoction! (Also note that they serve fantastic Polish vodka!!)

They also serve Belinis for two if you are in a celebratory mood - half a bottle of Moet and a little jug of white peach/ rasberry/ strawberry juice.

You can also come here in the day for coffee/ lunch and is a great place to chill out/ while away the lunch hour whilst listening to cool jazz - definitely my kind of place!

Not sure about the decor - it was more fitting of a sushi place or the like but the food was excellent.

My boyfriend insisted on the banana pancakes with some kind of curry sauce which sounds strange but was actually quite nice. The Goan pork was good but a bit too spicy for me.

Service was with a smile and the cocktails were reasonable.

Definitely will be going back although would not recommend for a 'special occasion' type of place.

I highly recommend this for a special occasion - we went early and had the restaurant practically to ourselves.

I have to disagree with mikezoomf's comment that the waiting staff are stuffy - we found them attentive and not over bearing.

It's the details that really make this restaurant - the hand made petit fours with coffee, the fantastic building and the service - definitely worth a visit (if you have deep pockets :)

Phone: 020 7437 6232
An authentic restaurant (which is what you would expect in the heart of China Town!). Always bustling and open late at night too so perfect for an apres theatre dinner.

The dim sum list is impressive - I recommend the sticky rice. By far the best I have had in London. The green crab dumplings and crispy beef noodles are also a favourite!

The only thing I would say is that it is a shame their dim sum menu ends at 5 as they could benefit from continuing this menu for those wanting an early dinner.

This restaurant is situated on top of a supermarket, which is also owned by the restaurant - you can pick up various Chinese delicacies here and is worth a look around - esp the fresh chinese veg which is difficult to get in the regular supermarkets.

I am more tempted than ever to go there now that the smoking ban is in force as the smoke was a bit of a downer sometimes.

You must try the Jasmine flower tea, which opens up inside your glass and the Kumquat Mohito is fab!

Whenever I go I always tend to get a bit carried away and order FAR too much so I would suggest ordering a few bits as you can always order more as you go along. It's better to go for a quick bite to eat mid shop or an early supper as they have an 1.5 hour turnaround and it does get busy at times. I've often been when the queue is out of the door - this does go down quickly though so don't let that put you off!
