For a supposed "institution" I am always left wondering quite why you'd bother when the similar but superior Walmer Castle is only a 10-minute walk away. The food is OK - generic pub Thai - but they don't serve drinks at the table! It is usually a zoo and it's a hassle to get a table and once you've succeeded you have to battle through all these people again to get a drink. With such ordinary food why would you bother? The pub itself may appeal to foreigners - it has "locals" and all that. It isn't bad, just an odd survivor and one you'd assume competition would have killed off years ago.

A very nice, old-fashioned pub serving very good (and reasonably priced) Thai food and good beers. The only down side is that it was catastrophically, crowded in the early evening. I guess people know about it. Once the crowds thinned out later on: lovely.

As a north American expat in London I've quite often despaired of the lack of good Mexican food (which can be found everywhere in the US and Canada). Lucky for me my office moved right near the Leather Lane market - and my romance with 'Daddy D' begun! Yes it's a little bit on the pricey side for a quick workday lunch but the burros, fajitas, quesos, salads and tacos are always delicious and freshly made - and you can customise to your heart's delight with salsa from mild to extra hot, guac, cheese and sour cream. I love the veggie fajitas the best with lots of black beans and red peppers. Mmmmmmm.... lovely friendly staff too. Yay donkey!

This pub reminds you of the terrific effect that a good host can have on an establishment. I popped in there whilst walking down to Kensington High St and left over 2 hours later! Not short of a word or a joke, Gerry the Irish landlord ensures that all goes swimmingly whilst bustling around serving pristine pints of "London Pride" and taking plates of Thai to tables in the back.

Noted for its Thai food this pub comes up trumps on the Drink stakes as well and the pub has morphed neatly into an Irish Tavern with all its assorted paraphenalia hanging from the ceiling or nailed to walls as in the old newspaper cuttings, Guinness signs or all the British Prime Minister's from Walpole onwards.

A lovely, bustling and welcoming pub...

I've not eaten at the Donkey all that much, but it's always a filling experience.

A couple of gripes though: why is the guac a Â£1 extra? 20p or 50p I can see, especially as the burros are around Â£5.50 each anyway.

Also, last time I went their tortilla chips were home made and amazing. Today's were a bag of Sainsbury's own plain tortilla chips in a paper bag. Not all that bad if they weren't Â£1.75 / bag.

Good food, but they need to watch the extras.

The number one spot in London for pub and food with an added bonus of having an historical charm. Knees up Mother Brown... a local haunt for cockneys. Cheap beer, fab cheap Thai food. A must for anybody within 5 miles of Kensington palace.

The Churchill Arms is a great old pub with interesting decor - a collection of chamber pots hang from the ceiling!

There is a good Thai restaurant at the back of the pub. The food is tasty and pretty cheap too.

This is a very popular place, so make sure you book ahead.

We find notting hill is central for a lot of friends so often head for the Churchill arms just for the thai. Make sure you book for dinner well in advance or you are likley to miss out on a table. The service is very quick and the food is fantastic - especially for the price! Once your allocated booking time is up they will have no problem in telling you and making you move. Not a problem as you can move straight into the pub for a drink.

Unless you plan on eating there I wouldn't both with this pub as there is nothing special (or awful) about it.

The restaurant is hidden in the back of the pub. But that is a real restaurant, with fine Thai menu. The butterflies and the deco are adding to the akward feeling that you can have when entering the pub itself. A great value for money, especially in the area.

I love this pub and its atmosphere.

The Thai restaurant at the back is very good value for money and the food is very nice (very spicy !). One advice is to book the restaurant in advance as it's pretty much packed all the time.

I tootled along to this pub thinking I would be able to soak up the atmosphere, have a pint and at the same time, fulfil my longings for a traditional sunday afternoon roast. When we got there the place was heaving because of the Rugby World Cup, but there are plenty of tables tucked away through the back so we only waited about 10 minutes before one came available and we could settle down. When handed the menu though, I was disappointed to see there was a short list of Thai numbers and not a mouth-watering joint or roastie to be found anywhere. The food we ordered was delicious, it came quickly and was just about the right size. I left the place pretty satisfied but I just wanted to warn others that appearences can be deceptive and this is not usual pub grub. Then again, maybe Churchill did have a penchant for Pad Thai, I don't know.

The churchill arms has to have the best pub based thai food in London. There are loads of pubs that have the Thai food concept, but I think the Churchill arms has the edge.

The pub is a typical traditional pub, full of character, from the outside you would never guess the culinary delights that await inside.

The food is simple, extremely tasty, and great value for money. Choose you time carefully or be prepared to wait for a table, it is most definitely worth the wait!

I seem to remember that the veggie options are just any of the dishes with no meat. Green curry and pad ped are amazing, and if you like you food hot, the Jungle curry is spicy enough to make my scalp tingle :-D

This has got to be one of the best lunchtime finds! If you are anywhere near Leather lane market it just has to be tried.

Huge portions, really tasty & freshly cooked. Choose your filling from chicken, steak, beef mince, pork or vegetarian and enjoy this delicious if messy delight.

If you have a tendency to get food everywhere, just skip on the salsa to save yourself from the worst of the leakage!
