The bar has a free screening room at the back, that was showing Borat when we visited. The barman was really friendly, explained the drinks to us, and the cocktails were expertly mixed. This is a lovely addition to Borough High Street, and we'll definately return.

I love Mexican food, and I'd heard such promising things about this place, that I decided to go and check it out, with a view to having my birthday there. Margaritas at the bar were pretty good, and while we drank them we paid for some chips and salsa to keep us going. Twenty minutes later, still waiting, and we ask the waitress to seat us so we can order food. The food, which arrived after a lengthy delay, was good, but we had to ask 5 members of staff about the chips. The service really lets this place down - I felt like the whole meal I was trying to catch their attention, and it really soured my experience. For the prices they're charging, this place really needs to up its game, as the service is appalling and I won't be back. Also, there's no way that a meal for two, with drinks and service is £30-closer to £60.

Phone: 020 7407 0557
The Rake is a really decent pub, and a bit of a haven in the middle of the market. As you might expect, given that it's owned by beer importers, they have a huge range of bottled beers and an ever-changing lineup on tap. It can work out quite pricey, and a couple of the barmen are a bit on the weird side, but given that it has so many lovely drinks, and some outside space, it's worth it.

Hidden down Bouverie St, just off Fleet St, it's a tiny little shop selling lunchtime fare. They do pies, breakfasts, salads and soups, but the real reason everyone's there is for the roasts. Pick your meat (beef, pork, chicken or turkey), decide whether you want it in a sandwich, as a salad, or just as a dinner. Pick your accompaniments (roasties, yorkshires, stuffing, veg etc) and your condiments. Decide if you want a sausage on the side. Done! A lunch will set you back around £5-6, and they have the usual stock of cold drinks, cookies etc. The website has the full menu available, and it's worth choosing what you want before you go, because it gets busy and no-one likes a ditherer. If you have a large order, and work nearby they'll even deliver. What's not to like?

They're only open limited hours at the moment, but they're a great lunch option for local workers/residents. They offer a variety of latin american dishes, including spanish omlettes, empanadas, steak sandwiches and salads. Prices aren't hefty - around £3-£5 for most dishes. Service is friendly and helpful, and it's a definate credit to the area!
