It's clean, light with a fresh design and is as welcoming and bright as the folk who work there. The tables are small yet you don't feel cramped or put out. The coffee is good, the food Italian and the service fast and friendly. The food isn't cheap, cheap it's reasonably priced good solid fare. What makes this place is the buzz, its human and warm - a total contrast to the down-at-heel, grimy vibe of the traffic alley known as Kentish Town. It shuts around four - get there early if you want lunch, coffee or to check out the location.

Thankfully I think as if everyone gets to hear about how fantastic it is, there will never be anywhere to enjoy the delicious food! Donâ¬"t actually know why I am reviewing it in that case! Stupid me. The staff are amazing, they are so friendly and happy ⬠the happiest staff I have been served by in such a long time! This definitely rubs off on the customers too, everyone will chat to everyone else and it is an amazing experience. Prices are also cheap considering the location!

But that is what you will regularly see at mario's cafe. But this is what you will regularly see here. The food is cooked to perfection (for this type of food!) and there is a fantastic choice on offer so you won't be short of choice! Perhaps there is too much on offer, i find myself standing there for a while pondering what to have - its all delicious! Their coffee is also fantastic!

It's run by Mario, his friend Dario (really) and Mario's mum, who does a lot of the Italian cooking. It's a tiny place and you'll most probably end up sitting on a table with some random strangers but Mario will look after you, not in a pushy, over the top way but just by being a genuine and friendly person. I really hate forced jollity and over-friendliness but at Mario's they have the balance just right. There's a huge crowd of devoted regulars who you'll get to know in an instant and Mario attracts regulars from all walks of life, Camden hipsters, local people, builders, arty types and everything in between. If you want to have a good cup of tea in a warm, comfortable place where you feel welcome and included, you can't go better than Mario's.
Food-wise there's your traditional cafe breakfast stuff - all very good but there's also home-cooked Italian stuff of all types which is truly excellent. The chips are big, thick cut jobs and the toast isn't just sliced bread. If you ever happen to visit when asparagus lasagne is on the menu, don't hesitate, order it immediately, grab a newspaper from the pile and join the family.

However, Kelly Street is arguably one of the prettiest streets in London, full of pastel coloured Georgian Houses and Mario's Cafe is a veritable institution. The place where "everyone knows your name", people pop in at all times of the day for a coffee, a fantastic Italo-English fry-up (think scrambled eggs with smoked salmon on fresh toasted ciabatta) and (a rarity in these parts) a decent espresso. Mario's also does a reasonably priced lunch and as Mario and his mother are Italian, you can expect the pasta to be al dente... The only problem is getting a table in this tiny place; Mario makes the customers so welcome that no one ever wants to leave!
