Where's the history?Call me cynical, but in a pub called Singers, which is near the former site of the world famous Singer Sewing Machine factory, wouldn't you expect to see some memorabilia or some sort of homage to a trade that brought a lot of employment to the area? Look elsewhere then.

The pub is OK but looks like it may get busy at weekends.

Steak Pie heavenWorking man's pub in the centre of Motherwell. I've been in three or four times now, and the lunch menu is actually quite good. Proper Steak Pie and overboiled veg. Very tasty. Very cheap.

Turns out my grandfather used to drink here, according to my dad. Seems to be a big Glasgow Celtic affiliated pub these days but not overbearingly so, although in common with most "football" pubs I wouldn't like to try it while wearing the wrong colours on a match day!

Very recently they've opened a paved beer garden out the back, with a fair number of tables, lots of umbrellas including an enormous central one with heaters and lights under the canopy, and two large TV screens protected from the weather by wooden structures. It's a good place to have lunch.

Run away, fastCrappy shithole 100 yards from where I used to live a number of years ago. Been in it once, at a wedding reception (the actual reception was fine, I must add!).

The crowds of probably unemployed, in fact quite possibly unemployable, dobbers who used to drink there seemed to take great delight in making as much noise as possible when they left at dark o'clock in the morning when I was trying to get some sleep before getting up early for work.

Tags: indian
It's not in MotherwellUsed to be a pub called the Newarthill Inn (it's in Newarthill, not Motherwell) and used to be run by the family of a work colleague. At that time it was probably only OK because I knew the people who owned it. Having driven past it recently and observed that it has now become an Indian restaurant, I would comment that it looks pretty scabby from the outside.
